You'll have to take the glass off first. Make sure you pry on it carefully as not to break it. After you get the glass off there will be 3 or 4 torx screws holding them on. Remove those and then the cap will come apart. There are some threads in the forum about it. Do a search for PTM mirror caps.

It should look like this when it's apart.

And done...

My truck came with manual mirrors factory. Pat found these for me from a guy that put on towing mirrors. I'm not sure what year model his truck was.

My mirrors came with chrome covers, and I took them off and painted the black. Turned out great. Check my album

Yes, they can. The 04-08 power mirrors are basically the same, aka XLT mirrors.

I don't have pics, but just tilt down your mirror glass so you can get a long thin screwdriver behind the glass and pop the 4 clips holding the glass in. If you have mirror heat, now is the time to unplug the two wires going to the backside of the mirror glass. Remove the 4 torx head screws that were behind the glass in the recessed holes.

Now grab the front side of mirror housing and pull it off.

Thanks man! My buddy is a painter and he just grabbed the paint code from my door jamb and went to town on them.

I started off with 120, then went to 220 and ended with 400. I would have ended with 1000 but couldn't find any. They still turned out ok though.
