2004 Screw Lariat Shift Interlock fix

For several months now I've been able to shift out of park w/out touching the brake and cruise has been intermittent. Annoying during a 40 mile highway trip to work. I read the TSB for the 2004's w/console shift and decided to take a look. Here's what I found:

1.There is a transistor in the module rated for 1 Watt. Part number-ZTX450

2.This transistor is breaking down/ overloaded.

3.The hotter it gets the faster it fails.

4.I replaced it with a comparible NPN transistor rated @ 1.8 Watts.

5.Replaced w/SK3444, data sheets are available.

6. Cost $1.00

7. Ford price $90-$180 for the entire module, plus $75-$100/hr.

If you can use a soldering iron and understand how to pinout a transistor(base, collector, emitter) this should be no problem for a do it yourselfer.

I take no responsibility in how you make your own repairs, just explaining how I did it.

I spent alot of time researching and testing, you should do the same.

Funny, my problem is that I CANNOT shift out of park when I touch the brake. I'm in the process of replacing the interlock shift solenoid/actuator (i.e. the black box on the driver's side of the shifter).

Most likely that your brake interlock switch is bad, this is actually 2 switches. One for the brake light circuit and the other for the shift interlock/cruise defeat circuit. Hope this helps.
