Moving - Few Questions

Im getting ready to move from Arkansas to Maryland and i had some questions about towing. The military is paying me to move my stuff back so im gonna get a trailer. The problem is U-Haul trailers have a max speed of 45 mph?????? Im not driving 1000 miles going 45, thats ridiculous. So is there anyone else that rents trailers?

Also, is it safe to drive with my overdrive off for 1000 miles? Should i stop every couple hours to give the truck a "break"? I drove the truck down here from MD unloaded with only stopping once to sleep. I just want to make sure im not going to break anything (that i can avoid). Normally when i tow, i turn the overdrive off and have my edge on level 2.

Thanks in advance.

Mods, i just noticed there was a towing section, can someone move it there so i dont get hollered at, thanks

Dont go by that 45 mph with uhaul ive rented plenty of them and you can cruise 65 or 70 no problems at all guaranteed. How many trucks you see going down the interstate at 45 with a uhaul trailer.

Yep, it's written backwards on the fenders so you can read it everytime you look into your sideview mirrors.

What it means is, when you wreck tell them you were doing 45.

That's hilarious and correct at the same time!

Ask to see the trailer you are getting before you sign anything. U-Haul has some really POS equipment and some newer stuff that has yet to be torn up and neglected my their "maintenance".

I got a car hauler (tandem axle) with a flat tire on it. I didnt notice until we loaded the car on it and the trailer leaned really bad. I had to pay out of pocket for a new tire and then Uhual reimbursed me. What a PITA and a waste of time, they are supposed to be checking all the trailers and equipment as it comes and goes

I wouldn't worry too much about giving your truck a "break". As a matter of fact the more you keep the wheels turning (and subsequently air flowing across the TOC) the better. I just towed my dad's boat this weekend with my truck. His boat weighed about 8,800 pounds and my truck hardly missed a beat. Granted, I have my Edge module set at level 2. Oh, I knew the boat was there and when I hit the hills I turned off the O/D and dropped the high gear. Other than that I was doing 70 without any issues...and ran my A/C for a good portion of the trip. My trans fluid was only reading 158 (normal was 150). That is only 8 degrees higher than when I'm not towing. The only time it went up was when I stopped. As a matter of fact, when I got to his house and killed the engine to unhook the boat the trans fluid jumped up to 180 from the "sitting soak". After a couple miles of driving it was right back down to 150.

Good luck.

I've towed plenty of uhaul trailers on the freeway and had no problem with them at 70mph.

Keep in mind what yetti said, and double check the trailer you get. I've seen a few with holes in the floor.

Where in Maryland are ya headed to?

If they're paying you to move your stuff, why don't you have your truck moved for you as well?

My options are:

A: They move everything for free, i get no cash, and it takes a while (a month to 3 months) to get my vehicle and stuff

B: They move my stuff, i get a certain amount of money per mile, and i have my truck when i get there (should be about 900 bucks in my pocket)

C: I move evrything, get around 900 for moving my truck, get anywhere from 2000 to 3000 bucks for moving my stuff and have everything when i get there.

I dont have a lot of stuff at all, so i think im doing option C

Im moving to falling waters, WV actually but im from Woodbine, MD. So i just say im moving to MD since falling waters is about 2 minutes from MD to avoid any WV jokes
