Heavy Duty Springs?

Hi again, thanks to the advice I found here I am a new owner of an F-150 Screw, a 2006 XLT.

I guess my test drive must have been mostly smooth roads, because I didn't notice the harsh ride at the time and assumed an XLT would ride better than an FX4. However, driving it around our pot-holed town I notice it a lot. I'm just wondering if it has heavy duty springs.

The suspension code is TTMM. I have searched but can't seem to find what exactly that means other than some undescriptive part numbers, one source even said that front spring code is from an E-150 van which doesn't make sense. Can anybody here help or point me in the right direction? It may be helpful to future buyers as well.

Thanks,

Phil

If you got 6 lug rims, then you have the standard payload package. If it's got 7 lug rims, then you got the Heavy Service payload package, with heavy duty suspension.

Don't FX4's have stiffer front and rear shocks?

yeah

but from I can tell, the FX4 shocks aren't much different. they control the body roll on corners alot better

It's a supercrew, so there's no way it will have 7 lug rims or the Heavy Duty payload package.

Take a look at your tire pressure, it might be set high. This could make things ride a bit rough.

You can always have your Ford parts guy look up your springs using the VIN. This will give you an idea of what you've got.

Yup... great observation.

As far as the tire pressure, I highly recommend no higher or lower than 35 psi if you want a smooth ride without it eating up your tires.

Running any higher or lower just gives a rougher ride and puts more stress on the steering, axles, suspension, and of course eats a lot of tire tread.

No worries, that sort of thing happens to ALL of us.

Just remember look at the simple things first. They are often the cause of unnecessary stress.
