Big block swap
To the OP, you might want to consider an axle swap, 4.6 equipped 150's have the smaller 8.8 axle in the rear, you need to find one from a 5.4 truck, they have the larger 9.75 axle. The 460 block has a different bellhousing bolt pattern than any other engine in the ford line up, try to find a 460 equipped f-250 or 350 4x4 and scavenge the trans and x-fer case out of it. you might want to get the front axle out of the same donor truck while your at it, and do a SAS conversion too.
thank you guys for all the input......by the way i live in south mississippi so no testing.....this will not be my only way of getting around so i can go as wild as i want....insurance will not be a problem......registration will not be a prob either(what they dont know.....lol)....yes i guess a simple 5.4 swap would be easy but where is the fun in that?? what would be better than to lift the hood on a late model and have one bad *** engine stuffed in there???......look i appreciate all the input....but i just wanted some tech help from guys who love ford trucks like i do.....so lets keep i technical and forget about the small stuff...lol...thanks guys, Kenny
Well, it sounds like you got most everything covered. Just so you know, in the mid to late seventies, ford had a 400 small block that was in everything from trucks to medium and large passenger cars, that engine had the same bellhousing pattern as the 460. If you plan on running a C-4 or an FMX tranny, you might find one in a car from that era.
If your going that route, the 400 small block looks like an overgrown 351 Cleveland, because that's what it is. It's a tall deck cleveland with 2 bbl heads and a stroker crank from the factory. There was also a 351M out there, it was just a destroked 400 back to 351, and used the exact same block as the 400.
If you want a heavier duty trans, try the C-6, or the E4OD. The e4od was the forerunner of the 4r100 trans that was used in the second gen lightnings and can be built to handle a lot. You can find them in early nineties 250 and 350's behind a 460.

You said you wanted to run 37's so make it easy on yourself and just install a rize 8" lift, it will clear 37's and allow you to keep the rack and pinion steering and IFS front end.
thanks red.....the c6 is my trans of choice.....still need to find a transfer case and rearend.....my neighbor is on the hunt now...i really hope this project comes together fairly easily....lol......i cant wait till i can turn the key.....i will get some before pics on here soon and keep u guys updated when i start.....still would love to be able to talk to someone who has done this before!!!!!!!!

This sounds like the Cummins swap. Nuff said.

If it comes together please prove me wrong, but I just don't see this being anywhere realisticly possible without a SAS setup.
