First Cross Country Trip in My Truck

Just drove from Atlanta, Ga to Colorado Springs. Truck did great pulling a loaded down 6x12 U-haul trailer. The gas mileage surprised me I was getting about 11-12 pulling the trailer with the cruise on 78 mph. I did notice that the trailer got a little squirrly at times. Wondering if there is any way to improve that or if the improvements on the 09's fixed that problem?

what problem?

the trailer getting loose is because you were going over almost x2 the recommended tow speed.

Max safely towing should be about 65-70 mph...but I would highly recommend slowing it way down...especially in the mountains
I've towed through that area of the country several times, and no way I'd go that fast through there once I left Denver heading West or North

Trailer might be a little squirty because of trhe weight distribution. It's more noticeable at higher speeds. You might have too much weight behind the axle of the trailer. Move some weight around and it will go away.

Or it could be the fact that it was a POS u-Haul trailer that says no more thn 45mph, lol.

I would say a combination of the crap Uhaul trailer and bad weight distribution. I tow quite a bit. I know when like we pull the snowmobiles I can have them 3 inches to far back and you will be all over the road and move them forward a bit and your fine....

Weight distribution as said. Lots of times on single axle trailers putting more weight on the tongue helps.

I had the weight towards the tongue. Just wondering if since my truck sits up higher if a drop hitch would help for towing?

The trailer may not have had trailer rated tires, either. Trailer radials are constructed different and don't wander as much as non trailer rated ones do.

That would put him going 130 mph

When trailers get squirrely it is usually due to lack of tonque weight, move the load further forward.
