In your defense they didn't announce it until the 15th.

I've never heard of a transmission failing completely with so little miles on it. It may be time to go foreign since american motor companies don't seem to care about their customers.
Sounds like a bad egg to me. Going foreign is not the answer, that is one of the reasons the U.S.A. is falling apart is because every knucklehead wants to go foreign instead of being a true American and supporting the cars & trucks that this country was built upon. I'm sorry, but U.S.A. all the way. And as far as American motor companies not taking care of their customers goes, why is it that Ford has the most dependable vehicles on the road today, not Toyota, Honda or all these other foreign companies that have cost thousands of Americans their jobs and ruined the American motor companies.

Sorry for the rant, this kind of stuff just really disheartens me.

The dealer can certainly cover it! They have a policy known as PO5, which is a customer goodwill plan. If you have a decent manager there, you can maybe persuade them to cover it, possibly with a small deductible. Most manufacturers have something like that available to their dealers for such a situation. Where I used to work they did it all the time.
If nothing else, pull out your manual and call Ford customer service and complain about it.... 38K and only a couple years old.... defect or not. Defects should be covered, and 2k over it's not right to have to foot the bill entirely.

If they don't cover it under the 100K powertrain, have the Ford rep go to bat for you for a goodwill repair. I had a water pump fail at 38K and they covered it 100%. I know it's not the same, but it's worth a shot. Good luck whatever happens.

My initial post may have seemed a little hard on Ford, but in my defense I posted it five minutes after receiving the telephone call saying I'm going to have to pay a lot to fix a fairly new vehicle.

to answer some of the questions, I have the 5.4 engine with 3.55 gears and 305x55x20 tires. The truck is not lifted.

I was not expecting them to cover the entire repair cost, I just expected a little assistance since a transmission should last more than 38,000 miles.

I called Ford and they said 3 years is 3 years and 36000 miles is 36000 miles. Sorry.

I'm going to try talking to the dealer again and then try Ford a second time.

I really don't want to go foreign or I would have bought one in the first place.

This is my second costly repair within th epast two months. Both happened just after the warranty expired making everything worse.

I guess I think differently then most. When my warranty expired I just accepted the fact I'd have to pay for any repairs that my truck needed. It never would have crossed my mind to try and get Ford to cover repairs on a vehicle they're no longer responsible for.

Thank you for some back the economy is going to crap because of the toliets. The reason for them giving the 100k mile warranty is so they can push as many cars as they can so they can push out the American workhorses like ford Chevy and dodge. As you can see its working because all the morons out there think that they are getting a deal of a lifetime. Think before you do anything man. Every Japanese car bought puts one more person that much closer to bring out of work.

Whatever. If GMC, Ford and Chrysler had been building decent quality vehicles back in the '80's and '90's, it would have prevented the Japanese companies from gaining such a strong place in the market to begin with. Why do you think they have the perception of having such reliable vehicles? It's because compared to what the big 3 were building, they were.
