Cutting back tail pipe for tip?

I have a stock exhaust setup with a 14" Magnaflow muffler and want to install a 8" Gibson single wall stainless tip. The section exiting to the rear after the bend is 10". Should I cut this back before installing the tip? I have done a search and couldn't find a definite answer to this question. Appreciate any input except saying "just put duals on"!

you dont have to cut it back but cutting it back will look better and use the tip for sound. the larger diameter tip allows the exhaust tone to bounce around in the tip making a slightly deeper note
