Will my gas mileage go up?

Hey everyone, I recently purchased an 07 screw 4x4 with only 4900 miles on it. I remember reading something on this forum about gas mileage going up the more you drive your new the truck. Some members indicated having 9k miles and still keep seeing an improvement in gas mileage. Is this true or was someone trippin?

btw I average 12.8 mixed driving on my first tank...that is sad!!!!

thanks in advance......

Mine goes more with the seasons than anything, 13.0 winter, 14.5 spring, summer and fall. Never saw a difference as the mileage increased ?

My mileage improved in our '06 when we broke the 15,000 mark or somewhere near there. The Expy was already improved, or "broken in" when we bought it with 13,000 on it.

I doubt it is really much, other than getting a feel for how to not get worse mileage. In other words, we stop clownin' the accelerator and get used to driving it.

My best tip is to pay attention to your tach, and keep it under 2000 as much as possible.

Have fun in the new low mileage truck!

From my experience, and I've owned many new vehicles of the years, there's no truth to your mileage increasing after a certain number of miles. I've not seen it and I log mileage in all of the cars/trucks I've owned.

Was your 12.8 mpg hand calculated or did the truck's info center give you this? Some times the info centers numbers aren't that great.

Topped off tank, heard first click. Reset trip meter, drove the vehicle till I had 1/4 tank left. topped off again, stopped on first click..Calculated the gallons recently added with mileage on the trip meter. 12.8....Yikes...I am going to do this several times to see what i get. I noticed if I reset the mpg reader, it is high, then goes down really low and it takes forever to go back up. I drive the same route to work and it stated 12.5 on the reader. I then reset it again this morning and drove the same distance, light on gas pedal, it calculated higher mpgs,13.9.

You will have to quit resetting it so often for it to become more accurate.

I will let it run like this w/o resetting it. How accurate is the mpg display on these trucks?

I get 15.0 with mixed city and highway driving around town every day. I am running the canned level 2 tune on my Gryphon right now.

For the Avg MPG's to be accurate I've found you need to run atleast 5,000 miles.

keep it under 60.... you will save a ton of gas compared to 70 or 80... the grpyhon reads like a 1-2 mpg drop when i go 75 compared to 55...

the amount of gas mileage threads on this site amaze me.
