attempting VHT nite shades on my tails

Ok, so I have been wanting to do something to my truck for a little while now and I got the idea of VHT. I am gonna get some today after work and also some clear coat. Let me know if I got my steps in order.

1.wash tails to remove dirt/debris
2.light sand with 400 grit
3.paint tail with vht, about 4 coats 5min in between each coat.
4.clear coat. about another 4 coats. 5min in between each coat
5. wet sand with 1500-2000 grit.
6. wax and polish

Is that right and does anyone have any tips or tricks to help?

I put 2 Coats on mine with 2 coats of clear and they where almost too dark. But after i wet sanded them wit 2000 grit. They look just right. I didn't want to go too dark, so that people can still see them during the day with the sun and all. I also tinted my third brake lite too.
