Just an idea. I picked my clean '04 5.4 FX4 Scab with leather, center console, with 39k for under 12k with TTT I think. Back in September or October. Prices very from place to place.

Look around more...

Did you look at Autotrader.com?

If nothing else it's a good place to get a feel for average mileage and price of what you want.

I did a search of 05 F-150's and it said... We found 423 used Ford listings within 500 miles of...

I sell my SCab F-150 XLT two wheel drive every four years with around 125,000 miles. They are in excellent condition with almost all highway miles. I usually replace original tires and brake pads at 90,000. They usually sell private party for $7500.

prices went up for used f150s from last October. Newer trucks are up as much as 5k.

Why do you say 135k is not reasonable for an 05. It's a simple fact that some people drive more than others, and the vehicle gets discounted accordingly for those miles. He would be better off with an 05 with 135k than with a 98 with 135k. That's an easy choice even though neither one is eligible for an extended warranty.

I feel that it is high mileage... not reasonable for that age of truck. It is a simple fact that some people drive more than others, I just don't consider it a reasonable mileage after they are done with them.

no the truck I was looking at is 10900 with 135k.

what I have to spend on any truck is probally around 12K.

I would not buy a truck with 135K for 12k.

yes ive been all over auto trader. there are a lot of F150s around me for around 12k, but not a lot of FX4s. most of the FX4s are more, a lot more as high as 18k. I do consider 135K very high miles for an 05 also, thats why I have an issue with the truck.

yeah if I search I get a lot of listings, then I go to 300 miles or less, 4X4 only and V8 and the number gets a bit smaller. Ill just have to keep looking. I have time. the right deal should come along.

Just remember haste makes waste. I don't know how long you plan on keeping the truck but it will be worth it to move slowly since you will have to live with your choice for some time...or not.

After I posted I noticed there were many trucks but not nearly as many 4X4's. I searched within 500 miles since that is pretty much 8 hrs and a bit more than a tank of gas in a truck. I guess it depends on what is too much trouble for you.
I lived in Norther California and flew to Vegas to buy a motorcycle once. It was a long rough ride in the winter on a motorcycle but worth the trip.

Good Luck!

found 2 more near me. Both FX4s. there still a bit high miles, but not as bad. there both 04s. one has 91k, but the guy at the dealership says it has a bit of wear, a few dings and the like, a farmer owned it. the other one has 108k, basically another year of driving, but the dealership said its super nice, just had the plug change done and has new rubber. there both in the 12k range, the higher mileage one is actually more. Im waiting for pics of them. do you think this would be more reasonable, I think I may be able to get them down, maybe to 11k. ive been looking for about a week online and in my area this is what FX4s go for. im seeing low mile ones, 50-60k going for anywhere between 16 and 19k.

I'd be leary of buying an 05 5.4 with over 120k on it due to the injector warranty being expired at that point

I know FX4's have a bit nicer look/styling to them, but why don't you consider an STX or XLT? They are almost always cheaper, and you can find a lower mileage one of these and not sacrifice many options....Just an idea.

Damn.. $16k-$19k? that makes me want to sell mine and get an '09

mine has 52k miles and i would take $16k all day. good to know our trucks are starting to be worth something again, for a while i was getting nervous when the gas prices went up and the trade in value was around $11k

thats a good point.. he could get a 4x4 STX and save a few grand and the outside of the truck looks very similar.. the interior options are very different but you gotta sacrifice something to save a few bucks..

Thats kinda why I mentioned it. The interior in my XLT is nice and simple. I like it. Its very comparible to my 'Silverado' that I had prior, just isn't leather basically. If he could find an STX/XLT in that 12k range it might have 75-80k on it.....

I just did a NADA look-up on my truck, 04 F-150 FX4 SCAB w/70,000 miles - $14,800. Ouch. I think I still owe more than that on it.

EDIT: $14,800 was retail, $10,500 trade-in.
