Changed fuel filter

Today I decided to change the fuel filter on my 05 SCREW 4.6. I bought it 4 months ago, and I think it still had the stock fuel filter. I was prepared for some fuel to come out of the lines, but not as much as it did. Scared the crap outta me and burnt my skin. I'll never make that mistake again. Other than that, took about 10 minutes and cost me a work shirt. What the ideal mileage between filter changes?

I got it all over me...almost got in my eyes. Next time I'm gonna use a plastic bottle to catch the spray. 15,000 seems like a good number to me considering how dirty the fuel in the filter was.

Never done a fuel filter. Anything special I need to know?

Bought my 04 and not sure if it has ever been changed.

To keep gas from spraying, can you relieve the pressure?

Special tool? How do you use it?

Let it spray you, it's an experience (especially if you are a smoker, I am not )

With the crap that comes out, that is not often enough. I do mine 15,000 to 20,000.

You can relieve the pressure by taking off the fuel cap and letting it sit for a little while. This is how I do it and I rarely lose more then a few drips out of the line. Most of the gas I lose comes from the fuel filter itself. Just have an old rag handy to catch the gas.

You do need a special tool to release the line. The best one IMO you can get is these little plastic clips from autozone. They should be called line release tool or something similar. They come with about 6 in different colors, my truck (05) uses the gray clip.

Good luck

I have 44k on my 06 F150 and I never changed the filter yet. I'll get around to it in the next month, just been busy as heck. I did get around ot dumping fuel system cleaner in about a month ago though.

I bet mine's pretty filthy, I always use the cheapest gas and most of the time wawa is the winner.......................

I would def. recommend taking the fuel cap off before you start. The tool for my 05 is to release the clip in the metal fitting on the right hand side of the filter It's and 0-ring clip. just push the tool in and you'll hear a click then you know it's released. Other than that, don't break the clips.
