vents on cabin back wall noise??
vents on cabin back wall noise??
Got a quick question here:
I have a noise that comes from the rear of my truck. I finally had enough and ripped out my rear seat, took out the jack, and removed the liner from the rear wall of the cabin. There are two vents there I'm assuming to equalize pressure in the cabin. Anyway, these two vents (one on each side of the cab) have a little flap on them to keep out road noise (I guess). I push the flap and let it flap back down with my finger and what do you know it makes the noise I'm hearing.......
Apparantly when I hit bumps or anything these little flaps bounce against the vent and makes noise. Has anyone had this problem, and how did you fix it??
I'm thinking about taking the felt side of a velcro strip and lining the vent with it, but then I won't get a "complete" seal and let in more road noise probably. I don't know, I guess I'll have to try it.
Anyone else???

I have not heard the noise, but what ever you do don't seal them up. You might look at one of those thin drawer felt stoppers to stick on. The other is to smear a small amount of silicone glue on there and let dry before putting back together.
x2 I sealed the passenger side one completely and half of the driver's side (left some of it open for AC ventilation). Works like a charm and really quieted down the tire/exhaust noise.

That flap does nothing to deaden noise. Drive around with the rear seat back out and the rear covering off and it is very noisy. I cut a couple of pieces of 2" beathable foam rubber to fit under the rear cover under the bulge. It helps.
When I deaden the rear wall, I intend to cut some sheet metal to fit flush over that recess and will either drill holes in the sheet metal or make a long cut across it and bend the metal in, so air can move through the cut and foam to further deaden the noise. I wouldn't completely close them off.
