Autospring Leveling Kit Destruction

My truck has 80,000 miles on it and I am having my 2nd passenger side CV boot and seal replaced and my 1st driver side CV boot and seal replaced today. It's only been 15,000 miles since the passenger side boot and seal were replaced. I looked at my truck today on the lift and saw how the boots rolled over on themselves now because the factory angles were changed so much with the leveling kit. I don't ever offroad, so no it wasn't punctured. The only plausible explanation is the leveling kit. 3" of lift for $100 is very tempting, but will end up costing me 4-5 times that in repairs. Just a heads-up for anyone interested. Needless to say, the leveling kit will be coming off soon.

Do you think the 1.5" or 2" will have this same effect?

How many miles did you put on with the leveling kit?

There are many guys on here with a lot of miles without out any problems. I have a total of 25k miles on my truck with the autospring 2" for about the first half and the bilstien leveling shocks for the other half on the miles. I just changed my oil the other day and didn't notice any addition wear on any of CV boots.

Excluding my drivers side boot has 2 holes in it that is completely unrelated to the leveling kit. My make shift patches of the holes are still holding up pretty good for being on there for a couple of years.

I put the leveling kit on at 10,000 miles. The less the lift, the less that change of angle on the CV joint. Good luck with your boots. Anyone got a link to the installation instrutions for the AS kit?

i have been having some weird front end noise lately, im curious if my leveling kit is screwing things up..

i get a clicking type noise or kinda sounds like a zipper on a jacket. i thought it may be the brakes but the noise is still there when i press on the brake pedal. it's only been going on for a week or so, i need to get it checked out

Just curious, what did you use for a patch repair?

Get out and shake the crap out of the truck side to side like you want to roll it. See if you hear the sound. If you don't jack the front end and put a crowbar or something under the tire and lift the tire quickly. I like using the standley super wonder bully crow bar since the design lets you use your foot. Chances are you have lower ball joints worn out.

This is why I always recommend a suspension lift with a proper differential drop. The leveling kit is the cheap alternative, but could end up being costly in the end. I know lots of people haven't had problems with the leveling kit, but there's always that chance that it will cause problems.

Thanks, i will try that this weekend.. i'm sure that the leveling kit and the over sized wheels will void my warranty.. right?

Not sure. I changed my ball joints myself. It's a moderately easy job if you got the tools.

I used some black silicone glue. I let that set up for a few hours then I wrapped some self vulcanizing tape around the boot a few times. I don't use the 4wd a lot so I figured that this should last a while. So far so good even though it is only a band aid.

That's decent amount of miles on the CV boots but the AS probably did have a part to play in the first pass side and driver side.

15K miles on the second passenger side I would think something else has happened to cause such an early problem. Maybe not installed right or hit something in the road the came up and hit the boot?
Good luck

yal did realize he said 3" of lift...? there is no doubt about that thats the culprit. go down to a 2" and you shouldn't have these kind of problems.

How is a Leveling Kit causing damage to your CV Joints? They don't rotate unless you are in 4x4, and the flexing from normal everyday driving is not taxing at all on the rubber

I've seen people argue this before...but I don't see the connection. Yes it has more angle, but that is about it.
