Angry Hellas Didnt Work

I Finally got around to buying the Hella 500 Driving Lamps. The Hellas just didnt seem to be getting any power and neither did the switch. The only connections that i wasnt sure where they went were the Green wire and each short blue wire coming from each hella lamp. I made sure i read the instructions proparly over and over and over again but they just didnt seem to work.

I tapped into the solid black wire coming from the bulb from the left headlight. There was a solid black wire and 2 green striped wires. I used the blue clamp that came with the kit to splice the solid black wire together with the green wire that came with the hella kit and still nothing. I've never done anything like this and the instructions seemed straight forward but i have no clue what to do.

My guess is that you are tapping into a ground wire. If I were you I would try getting power from the parking lights or better yet the fog lamps if you have them. If you have fog lamps, you could eliminate the switch that came with your Hellas and just use the OEM fog lamp switch. Be sure you wire the Hellas + wire with the hot wire on the fog lamps and ground to ground.

Make sure you have a + and - for each light... then trace it. Instead of grounding it, just take the time to directly run it to the battery. Sure, more wire, but it works much better and you get a nice complete circuit.

Ok, assuming the Hella's are using a relay, here is how you should wire it if you want to use the stock fog lamp switch to turn them on

The wire that the arrow is pointed to is the one you should be tapping into the fog lamp power with, don't tap into any black wires, those are usually ground and will not provide you with power. There are 2 wires coming out of the fog lamps, use the one that isn't black

the blue wire from the lights is the ground you can either groud it to the front of the truck somewhere or run them all the way to the battery. the other wire has to go to the battery it is the power. the green wire i just ran straight to the battery. your problem is probably where you have the lights grounded if i was to guess.

OK, I just found the PDF for the Hella 500's, The following wires should be wired like this:

From the fog lights:
Blue- Gound
Black (or green): Both wires spliced together and go to post #87 on relay

From the relay:
Red: Should go from post #30 to the + battery post with a fuse inline
Yellow: Should go from post #86 to the switch
Blue: Should go from post #87 to the high beam wire

Switch:
Yellow: To post #86
Green: To low beams

Here is the PDF instructions http://www.hella.com/produktion/Hell...structions.pdf

Just take your time and follow each wire.

Keep in mind if you are going to be using the lights ON highway they have to be hooked up tobe on with the high beam lights only and lower than the headlight line of your truck. Use nolongerjeepin`s wiring but where his arrow is tap that from the high beam headlight wire.
