in dash AC power plug?

i'm planning to buy a truck soon and i have a few ideas runnin threw my head. im wondering if anyone has replaced that dumb little coin holder (where the on-the-fly 4x4 thing goes) with an AC power plug? maybe hide a converter somewhere and wire a plug into it?

im not great with electricty thingy mabobers and have never tried to plan this.. im just wonderin if its can be done. i think it would be fairly convienient and worth the trouble if it can be done

i didnt use the coinholder, but i did mount 2 AC outlets by my cigarette lighter. my inverter is under the hood by the battery, and i ran extension cords from the inverter to power the outlets. i pulled out the switch on the inverter and extended the wires to a new switch just under my cupholders on the center dash.

you would have to pull the dash to see if theres enough room behind the coin holder to mount an outlet, plus youd have to find some way to make it actually look good, with some kind of bezel or something.

heres mine

nice install. those single round outlets look alot better than leviton duplexes.

Ive started and failed at completing this, lol. I have the wire for the inverter, a 750w inverter. I just dont know where to find black plugs. And also, how exactly do you wire it up through the extension cord. Im good a 12v systems, but 110 is new to me. Im guessing you just cut one end of the extension cord off and wire up a plug to it? Im gonna mount my inverter underneath my backseat I think.

yep thats all you do, you treat the extension cord like its a standard romex house wire. I had to spray paint the outlets with a flat black. they are holding up pretty good though.

i thought about mounting the inverter inside the cab, but you would need pretty long lengths of that 6 or whatever gauge wire to go from the inverter to the battery, which is more expensive than just buying a couple extension cords... but if you already have that wire then youre good to go. i dont really like where my inverter is, and under a seat would definitely be a cleaner look.

Where did you mount your inverter? I dont want to leave it exposed under the hood. It is a pretty good size inverter so I think either under my back seat or under my passenger seat would work the best. I guess I could mount it behind my seats next to my amps...and theortically I could tap into the amp power wires. Hmmm...

you could do that, but i just wouldnt have your system blasting at the same time that youre running something off the inverter.

mine is open under the hood just between the battery and the firewall. It looks kinda crappy, but i dont know how to make it look any better unless i moiunt it inside, which i may end up doing...
