Alternator Question please.........

I know this should go in the electrical section but there's more folks here (sorry). How hard is it to change the alternator out? I am pretty sure mine has gone bad. I have a Haynes manual and it looks like the belt removal would be the toughest part; does that require a special tool? Thanks a bunch guys for any help.

Easy deal..... Remove the serpentine belt. You'll need a 1/2" breaker bar or ratchet. Follow the diagram on the hood for re-routing the belt. Disconnect your battery and follow the instructions in your Haynes manual. It will most likely take you longer to remove the belt and replace the belt than it will for you to actually replace the alternator. I would highly suggest you get it checked before you replace it.... it might not be bad. They are also quite pricey!

use a breaker bar, the longer the better because you have to get behind the fan and then put leverage on the tensioner.

Thanks guys.........

I will get it checked out first. I noticed a funny noise from the truck all day yesterday and then last night I watched the battery gauge slowly go to low and then the truck finally died. My battery is not very old so I assume it is the alt.
