Question 4.2. To 5.4?

I'm new to this site as of today. I have a 2008 F150 standard cab 4.2 5 speed, and this morning I had a thought, I considered swapping the engine for a 5.4. I found an 08 excursion with the 5.4 liter for salvage for 3600. I need to know if it is possible to use that engine in my truck and if the seats cd player and any other interestng items I may find will swap into my truck. I want to keep the 5 speed if possible, I would like to make it a street truck but there is also the thought of using the 4x4 from the excursion. Is any of this cost effective or should I give up hope and buy a new truck? Any answers will be helpful

You'd be much better off just buying a 5.4 F-150 and selling your current truck. Your tranny will not work with the 5.4, you'd need new wiring/PCM, etc etc etc.

Why did you get the 4.2 anyway if you already want something bigger? It's an 08 so you can't have had it for too long already.

I'm sure you can do it, but man why would you??? The labor involved isn't easy and by time you buy all the parts you'll be close to trading up to a factory 5.4 truck! If you add in the labor (either your time or others) it will be WAY over trading up.

If I were you, I'd look for a used late model 5.4 4x4 truck and see what the model you want goes for. Price out your truck on KBB and see what they are selling for and then you'll know the difference to "upgrade".

Thats my 0.02!

Yea I knew it would be a futile atempt, in march of last year when I bought the truck it was all I could afford but now I've returned from my last deployment and I go back to Colorado in december for good. I live in north Carolina now so the 2x4 is fine for now but it'll be a different story in Colorado, and I've really fell in love with the truck, but I guess it's time to move on to bigger and better things.

Ford didn't make an Excursion in 2008.

Sell your truck and buy a truck outfitted like you want. Trying to piece together two into one is almost always a losing proposition.
