engine failsafe mode HELP...

Hey guys, I did a search and found a few old topics on this, but was hoping that since that time, someone else may have experienced this same problem that can give me an idea of what it is.
I have not driven my truck (04 new body 5.4 f150 screw) for about 3 weeks now. It is just sitting in my paved driveway collecting dust. THe last time I drove it, I parked it and there were no issues what so ever. I drive it very easy (due to it getting 11 mpg w/ lift and tires) and do not beat on it.
So yesterday I had ot move it ot mow the lawn and the Engine Failsafe Mose pops up. When this happens, it idles very rough and will not go over about 2g rpms. Obviously that is its way of protecting itself so I understand that. But what i dont understand is why it is happeneing. Like i said, it drove perfect the last time I parked it and has never done this before. The only things abmormal that has happened is we got a ton of rain here in Central Fl over the last week, but the truck sits so high, I cant imaging the engine got wet from the rain hitting the driveway and splashing up. No one else drives it but me either.
I did put a new flowmaster SIDO muffler on it a few months ago, but that that hasnt caused any issues in the thousand or so miles i put on it since then.
Any suggestions?
I guess i will take it down to closest Autozone and see if the can scan it. If nothing comes up I will have ot take it to FORD, but dont really want to drive far in FailSAfe Mode (Ford is only about 4 miles down road though)
Thanks all for suggestions.

It sounds like the dreaded fuel injector problem. If you crank the engine, there is a high risk of hydolocking and destroying rods. Do a search on leaking fuel injectors and on fuel injector letter. Ford sent out a letter extending the warranty.

Here is one thread to read.

May not be your problem, but would be my first thing to check.

If it starts back up normally it's most likely the throttle position sensor.

Ok, I got an answer to my problem and I will share it in case it ever happens to anyone else.
So I had it towed to Kelly Ford (Melbourne FL) and they informed me it needed an entire new throttle Body as well as needing the carbon cleaned out of the injectors, and injector ports. They said they did a complter code check, and a visual check to confirm all this. THey said the total was 879$ and they had all the parts there to complete it Saturday Morning.
Because this didnt make sense how it could just happen by sitting in my driveway and not being started, I decided not to pay them to fix it and just pay them the 80$ diagnostic fee.
I then called a family friends garage who I towed the truck to Sunday. Today the friends garage called me back with the news.
The verdict..... They got up in the engine bay and notices a wire that was cut that goes to one of the sensors (I guess one that goes to the throttle body)
So they spliced in another short piece of wire, soldered it and heat shrinked it, and 25$ later, the truck runs like new again. I asked them how it could have happened, and they guesses maybe a squirrel or something that got up in there to get out of the 21" of rain we had over 3 days.
Anyway, moral of the story...Dont trust those damn crooks at the ford dealer (at least in my town...I know some of you have had good experiences with your Ford dealer and I am very happy for you. I wish I could say the same).
THanks for those that responded with suggestions.

BTW, they wanted almost 600 for the new throttle body, and 129 to spray cleaner in the ports, and another 99 top spray cleaner on the injectors.
Autozone had the entire throttle body for $127...even though I didnt need it afterall.
I guess i know why Ford didnt need the bailout money....We pay it to them directly instead of the Gov.

Glad you got it resolved. It is a shame that you get that kind of treatment from a dealer.

Ya know, we had a boat load of rain here in the Tampa Bay area and my "limp home" mode popped up the other day as well. turned truck off and then back on,,,all good. Codes that popped up were for throttle body stuff as well. Maybe that same squirell came down here and chewed on my wires as well.
