What is wrong with my truck? Please help

Ok, heres whats going on...

I've got an 05 F150 with a 5.4 (K.R. SCREW if it matters) and it's giving me some issues. The truck is stock engine wise except for an Airaid intake and a Corsa exhaust. When I go to pass someone or really ever get into the throttle heavy the engine like sputters and shakes and seems almost like it's misfiring. I really wasn't that sure what the issue was so I just stopped flooring the truck hoping it would eventually go away, but it hasn't and I want it fixed now. I've heard some talk of the trucks coming lean from the factory and the issue getting worse after an intake, but if it was getting THAT lean wouldn't I have a CEL (I haven't had one yet)? Would buying one of those EDGE tuners resolve the issue by adding more fuel and correcting the A/F ratio? Or do you guys think its something else such as the injector recall?

Help me be able to pass Chevy's once again

It sounds like the issues I had. When I would drive normal, everything was fine. When I'd go to pass someone and floor it, the truck would break up and back fire as the RPMs went up. It ended up being 3 spark plugs, 3 coil packs and an injector.

2005 5.4 is notorious for having bad injectors. There is an injector warranty extension for the injectors on the 2005 (only) 5.4 injectors.

The Edge would probably make it worse. Unfortunitly your truck wont always throw a cel if its running lean. I would get the truck looked at.

2004s and 2005s came from the factory in a near lean condition. Adding a CAI without a custom tune can be enough to cause damage even if you do not get a CEL. The Edge tunes are written for the stock intake and will not help. You need custom tunes, a Gryphon or Xcal3, if you run the CAI. The previously mentioned injectors need to be checked as well. Put the stock intake back on, disconnect the battery for 30 minutes and see if you still have the problem.

Thanks for the help guys. I don't really think it is the intake since it didn't start doing it until a few months after the intake was put on, but I'll still try putting the stock intake back on anyway if it didn't get thrown out. I'm aware of the injector issue too, I took it to Ford and they told me they would test it to see if the injectors were the issue but if they weren't I would have to pay like a $150 diagnostic fee or some BS like that. Thats total bull IMO.

If you work for free, come on down, your hired!
You need to be a little more realistic...if the dealer didn't charge to look at vehicles, there would be NO dealer.

It's warranty work, why should they charge?...

It is only warranty work IF the injectors are the problem...you are assuming they are the problem (just because they have a warranty extension does not mean they will test every 2005 for free)

sorry to hear your problems

but yeah, I'd slap the OEM intake back on there and rule out the CAI first
