Any troubleshooting advice on air mode changing from vent to defrost or vice versa. Quits working randomly and is becoming more frequent. Just like to have an idea of how involved it gets before i tear into it. Thanks

 

Do a search of recent posts with my username. I recently had a problem where my mode was stuck on vents and I couldn't change it. Long story short a piece of foam inside the dash jammed up one of the selector doors. To fix this I had to rip the whole dash out and remove the foam.

An easy way to see whats going on before you do any of this is to remove your mode door actuator (located driver side under dash, is accesable from below). Take that off and move the 3 levers it controls, see if one is jammed up. If they are not jammed it's probably the actuator itself or the control unit in the dash.

Thanks, removed mode door actuator (no easy task) everything seems free and was still well lubricated. This has me leaning toward the control unit. The mode door actuator motor would work while unbolted from duct (telling me the motor is okay) however, it was still only random never when i selected a different position such as defrost or vent.
