Leveling Kit Negatives

I have a little bit of money and am looking for something to do to my truck. The thought of lifting my truck a little, while setting it up in the future for bigger tires, intrigues me. However, it seems that I read somewhere that leveling kits add stress to the truck.

I don't want to do any modification that will take away from the reliability of the truck. Can someone who understands suspension better than me weigh in on this for me so I can see if this is something that I really want to pursue or not? If it matters, my truck is an FX4 with 17" wheels and I would probably go with the 2" kit.

Thanks!

You should be fine with the 2" kit. The only thing that I have heard of is extreme angles on the cv's if you put something like a 3" leveling kit in. The wear of everything(ball joints, cv's) will be sped up a little with any kind of leveling kit but its nothing major.

Exactly, some people run 3" kits which cause severe CV angles and ruin ball joints, but with a 2" or even a 2.5" kit you will be fine. Ball joints go out eventually, a leveling kit might speed it up a little but you will hardly notice it.

Thanks.

Has anyone with a leveling kit had to replace the ball joints or anything? If so, how long did you have the leveling kit on?

I 40k on my truck, 30k with 2'' AS and 10k with the Bilsteins, no problem with ball joints.

I have 40K on my 2" leveling kit with no problems (knocking on wood). The only thing I would do different would be to replace the shocks at the same time with the Bilsteins. I have the 2" leveling with the bilsteins set at 0.

I've been running a Daystar 2 1/2" kit close to 4 yrs and close to 50k miles with no problem's so far. Most of that with 35" tires too!

Leveling shocks

I HAVE A 05 F150 4X4 WITH 151,384 MILES ON IT. CAN'T REMEMBER THE EXACT MILEAGE HOWEVER, QUITE SOME TIME AGO FRONT SHOCKS (STRUTS) WENT BAD. I REPLACED THEM WITH THE RANCHO LEVELING SHOCKS. BEST THING I'VE DONE TO THE TRUCK. PRICE IS A LITTLE HIGH BUT I REPLACED MY BAD SHOCKS AND GOT MY TRUCK LEVELED ALL IN ONE. I ALSO WENT WITH COOPER DISCOVER STT TIRES. SIZE 295/70/17 THIS IS A TRUE 34IN. TALL TIRE WITH NO TIRE RUB. I'AM ACTUALLY SURPRIZED YOU DON'T HERE MUCH OF THESE TIRES OR THIS SIZE BECAUSE OF 35IN. TIRES SUPPOSEDLY RUBBING.

Can anyone post a copy of the installation instructions for the AS kit? I'm about to order one and just want to know what it is going to take to install it before I do.

Never heard of any issues with the 2" kits. I say go for it!
