On yours...the key cannot start it, correct? But you are saying that it can be wired with a switch so that the key can start it if the switch was switched.

 

Correct. You can wire up a switch that allows the power to travel through the wires all the time, or make it to where the power has to travel through the push button. So im thinking the options would be: push button only OR push button and key. I think the push button would work all the time. I THINK. Ive been running it through my head but its still confusing.

Very cool, but couldn't you program a spare PATS key (probably break the blade off) and zip tie it close to the keyed ignition and not even have to have a key? Even better I think. Then with keyless pad on outside and push button inside. No need to have your keys at all. You can never get stranded!!!!! But this is the part I'm unsure of. What if you did valet your truck and you have two PATS keys together trying to crank the truck, does this matter?

 

Mine already has the PATS bypass system installed, I should be able to start my truck without a key correct? But the key would still have to be put in and engadged to unlock the steering wheel and stuff right? Or would I no longer need a key? Hmmm this is getting confusing.

 

you have to have a key in the ignition to turn the ecu on and unlock the wheel

 

ok, i have a question. the round piece that the ugly black rubber thing was on, it will not fit down inside the lighter. what did you do here? i was thinking about using the bench grinder to make it fit. but, so far, everything is going well. and another thing. if you use the switch so you can use the key, the push button will still work also.

 

mine was just the right size that it actually screwed on to the switch. try to cut it were it bevels in

I used the start button from a Ford GT and installed it in the that stupid coin holder spot

 

First of all thanks GCW for showing us this mod and i am now in the middle of doing it to my truck. Now I have a question which can go to basically anybody who has done the start button mod. Have any of you used a relay because my buddy says its super dangerous to tap in to the ignition wires b/c they heat up real easy. And also have any of you found a different way to wire these up. Thanks for any info...
