Annoyed... Need some help
okay, so I've had the truck for a year now... and it has bothered me for a while now... but whenever I have my window's down and rear slider open, every time I hit the slightest bump my hard tonneau cover rattles and squeaks... drives me nuts
I tried oiling all off the hinges, but thats not it... It has a rubber/foam thing that lines the front of the cover (near cab) but I'm not sure if there is one for the sides.. Do you think that could be the problem or do you guys have any other idea's..
Not that this will help much, but here is a pic of what I'm running

well i think i can help. are you sure its your cover? mine rattles and i have no cover. i thought it was my tailgate cables so i electrical taped the supports so the metal to metal is eliminated and then i covered up the cables and it still does it. im now thinking its the latch itself in the tailgate. either the handle or the latches that hold the tailgate closed. could even be the lock. i tested it by driving with the tailgate down and had no noise until i hit a bump where the cables would have moved. ford says their frames are still but with the slightest bumps my bed moves. it seems to be really flexable, not stiff. i dont remember any of my other 4 trucks moving that much
Its the catch for the tailgate that is making the noise. The cylinder like object that sticks out, that catches the lever for the tailgate. Just oil it down and your problem should be gone. I was having the same problems with my truck, so I WD40'd it and fixed the problem right up.
Yeah my truck started doint that after I got my bedlined. I would only notice it with the windows down. I hunted for it for ever and eventually traced it back to my tailgate. It is in the latching mechanism itself. Spray WD40 in both sides of the tailgate (in the latch type deal on the tailgate itself) it stopped my squeaking.

thanks guy.. I adjusted the latches.. made it a little harder to get into, but it was a vast improvement.. also went ahead and lubricated all the hinges on lid and tailgate... still hear it on big bumps but no big deal otherwise i guess...
....humm, why didn't I think of this a year ago
