Get a new muffler and clamp it in place of the stocker, although the stocker is so big that you will also need a extra piece of pipe to fill in the space. I would suggest either Magnaflow or IMCO/Cherry Bomb. I have the IMCO now called Cherry Bomb Pro series and really like it. It is have a deep meaty rumble at idle and when hard on the gas, yet it is very quite when cruising down the road.

Take the whole pipe off from the connection before the muffler. Chop the over the axle piece from the muffler. Go buy 5ft of 2.5" pipe and 1 2.5" coupler from a muffler shop, I got 6ft and 3 couplers from Merlins for $90. Find a friend who likes to weld or have the muffler shop put it on. Max cost for install should be no more than $50 at a shop.

remove the OEM at the connection point.

put a 90 degree downturn

this way, you don't cut anything, and can always go back to a stock exhaust setup if it isn't to your liking

if too loud, go back and replace the 3' monstrosity muffler with a performance muffler

Just remove the stock exhuast completely and put on a cat back exhuast. Go with either the Flowmaster or Magnaflow they are the 2 most popular systems used.

Stab it with a screwdriver until it makes the right amount of noise; or flood it with water until it rusts through.

I had mine dumped at the connection for about a week. There is just way too much drone in the cab though. Running straight pipe on these trucks gives you the sound but isn't obnoxious.

Just a thought - tough times you know.

To add some substance, on my last truck I just added a Dynamax muffler SI/SO with a nice welded chrome tip. Not expensive and sounded good. Anyway, good luck with whatever appropriate method you chose.

I replaced my stock muffler with straight pipe, I LOVE the sound. NO drone and it has that nice deep raspy sound.
