What is that you have plugged into the bottom of iphone/ipod? Is that the iSimple cord plugged into something then into your iphone?

That's a charger. The Itouch needs that if you want it to charge while plugged in.

iPod connectors have had two charging pins -- one with a 12v connection and one with a 5v connection.

The older iSimple connectors used the 12v pin on the iPod connector to charge iPods. With the latest generation, Apple disabled the ability to charge through the 12v pin (don't know why). If a new-generation iPod is plugged into a device that uses the 12v pin and does not use the 5v pin, the iPod will play through the device, but will not charge.

Some devices are now on the market that plug into devices using the 12v pin and convert the charge to the 5v pin.

If you're using the iSimple products, you can also replace the cable. They have created a new cable that plugs into your existing Media Gateway and supports the 5v pin. With the new cable, both old and new iPods will play and charge.

Link to the new cable (about $20)

humm.... interesting... Do i tear back into everything just to be able to charge my iphone... NAH... i"ll just keep my old ipod in there at all times. Also, I noticed that the ipod is still "charging" when the truck is off, do you guys think that could kill the battery or do you think that the ipod will basically go to sleep once its charged and not drain much?

Mine did the same thing, at first I was concerned, but it never gave me a problem, even in the dead of winter here in Cleveland. My new setup is a kenwood DNX 7120 with a kenwood ipod interface and it shuts down completely when the truck is off. After my truck sits for a few days, the ipod is dead and it will kick in and start playing by itself when it gets charged back up. It's starting to get annoying having it turn on and switch to the ipod whenever it wants. I'm thinking about trying to rig up some sort of charging circuit to keep the ipod charging all the time.

I installed the isimple gateway into my 2006 XLT this past weekend. It took me all of 20 minutes. My truck has the factory single non-mp3 CD player. Honestly, after installing this I don't see the need for the CD player anymore, lol. Like previously posted, dipswitch #1 needs to be flipped "on." One of the best things I've done to my truck!

While I was at it I also changed all of my factory speakers to Pioneers as well as exchanged the non-chrome trimmed radio *****/buttons to the chrome trimmed ones from a trashed radio I got from a scrapyard. Nice, (relatively) cheap upgrade!

isimple- $150 from Bestbuy....20 minute install
4 Pioneers- $104 from bestbuy.....50 minute install
trashed radio (*****)- $15.....30 minute install

Total $$ = $269 and an hour and 40 minutes to install

I know for this amount of money I could have bought a new HU but I like the look of the factory radio (especially w/the chrome trim) and I couldn't have upgraded the speakers without spending more $$. I highly recommend the isimple Gateway.

I have the Brandmotion I bought from someone off here a year ago and listening to podcasts is a major PITA. I can't change podcasts without going back to the playlist and scrolling thru everything. iSimple any better or does anyone have any ideas to get the brandmotion one to work better?

I don't think it would make any difference if your playlist contained podcasts or music but with the isimple you can scroll back and forth between songs as well as fast forward and reverse (or is it rewind?). All this is done by the factory radio controls.

I can do that stuff with the Brandmotion. For some reason it won't let me do anything with the podcasts tho. I even made a separate play list for them and I still have to go all the way out then come back in to change to a different podcast.

Do they let yall pause the ipod? I didn't see anything about pausing the song in the isimple, usaspec, or brandmotion manuals.

yeah this is a few months old thread but i too would like to know. also i don't know if you've ever used one of the FM signal things to play the ipod through the radio but when you do the volume is very low the whole time like you have to turn the volume on the radio nearly all the way up for it to be loud. with the Isimple or similar products is it as loud as a cd?

Pause it by turning the radio off...a little late I know but I just installed one in my truck and that's what I do. Altho I didn't turn thar dipswitch on and I'm hoping that's why it won't control my iPod.
