Question Hella Grill

Does anyone know for sure if the Hella Halogen grill kit upgrade is a direct replacement for the stock grill or do you have to modify the OEM grill to install it. Basically is it plug and play or is it an insert? I'd like to give my OEM grill to a friend who needs it but if I have to modify it it defeats the purpose. Thanks.

It's a direct replacement of the grille and surround. The surround is attached by a few bolts, so install is easy.

The surround is unpainted though. It's just black plastic.

Grille Replacement. I have it. It wires up to your bright lights as well. Simple install.

If you have factory fogs, you will have to have it that way, or wired to your fogs. On most fords and other brand models, when you turn your brights on, the fogs go off. Most states only let you have 4 lights on at one time at night in the front.

You don't *have* to do it that way.... you could have them on their own switch in the cabin.

That's what she said... couldn't resist either.

So I just bought one of these grills. Not sure if hooking them up to the bright is the way I will go with it yet. Being able to switch them on anytime I wanted would be awesome or turning them on at the same time as the fog lights. I guess if I wanted to use them as intended then I would hook them up to the brights, but who does that?

Me.

They're hooked up to the brights for a reason. They are driving lights, so they have a far reaching beam. If you have them on with your lows, you will blind anyone in front of you.

The reason your fogs aren't on with your brights are because of the way the foreground light reacts with your eyes. With all the foreground light, the iris in your eyes closes and restricts the amount of light. By closing up, like that, you limit the distance that you can see.

So it's mostly a safety thing, for you and other drivers.

I finished installing the grill this weekend and did the right thing by hooking the lights up to my brights. Let me just say that the grill is awesome. Very easy to install and adjust. I have a pic of it (with the lights installed) in my photo gallery. I haven't taken a pic with the lights in yet.
