Tires

Well after a long time of waiting.. summer is here, and its getting pretty dang hot here, so im in need for tires BAD!!!
its been 105 and its just starting. i seen 6 blowouts in front of me this past week, so i decided its time to throw on sum meat.
i was debating between the Toyos ats, mts and the BFG ats, mts.. but i think the toyos mts are my final answer..
i found this site, does the price sound right?

If you are in Phoenix you will be out of luck with off-road tires. Anything with a B temp rating and speeds less than 100 MPH begs blowouts.

I know. I used to live down there. Stick with street tires like Toyo Proxies, at least between April and September. Winter is summer there and vice versa.

Make sure the tire has an A temp rating and 100+ MPH speed rating. With the tarmac at over 140° in August and a highly frictional tire footprint, prepare for blowouts otherwise.

That's tough. Just about every M/T tire in your size has a Q speed rating, or 99MPH. Sounds OK, but this rating is usually high. Expect 90-95 MPH. Many of the roads are running 75-80 MPH in town. Add heat and that's what causes blowouts.

There is one tire that has more of a hybrid street/agressive all terrain tread that compromises a little off-road traction for performance and ride. It has lower friction so it should be excellent in the desert. That's the Mickey Thompson ATZ Baja's:

They're not cheap. They run about $400 a tire.

jalichoacan,

I have found that Toyo's last a long long long time because they reinforce the rubber with nylon. It's a hard tire for sure. But I've not tried their M/T tires so I wouldn't know if they outlast BFG's or not.

The cheapest place for Toyo's that I've found is TireDealsForLess.com and you already have that link.

I am running Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ 40x13.50R18, and I can't say anything bad about them. They look good and have a smooth ride.

The Toyo is a great choice, I have the Toyo A/ts on my truck right now and have loved them. They ride smoother than the OEM tires I had on it. However I am getting rid of them to put some 35" Toyo M/ts on and I expect the same quality from them. Don't think you can go wrong with Toyos, they handle well, look good and aren't loud at all.
