Coin holder wiring

Does anyone know if the wiring to the back of the coin holder on the XL model is a switched wire?
I would like to add a temperature gauge here, and if I could use the wires that are already there it would maybe simplify things.
There are several wires clipped onto the back, and just have to verify. Thanks.
Here are the instructions for the wiring...
Ambient Air Temperature

1. Connect red wire from gauge to a switched 12v source (12v switched power source means that there are 12v to the red wire when the ignition switch is on and no voltage when the ignition switch is off)

2. Connect black wire from gauge to a good engine block ground and to black wire on sending unit provided

3. Connect purple wire from gauge to the nighttime dimming circuit (The purple wire must be connected to the headlight switch circuit so that there are 12v to the purple wire when the headlight switch is on and no voltage when the headlight switch is off)

4. Connect the white wire from the gauge to the white wire from the temperature sending unit provided

on a 4x4, that is where the selector switch is placed

Ford builds the cabs to spec reguardless if they are a 4x4 or 4x2...so they wiring gets run either way.

on a 4x2, they just snap those wires onto the coin holder

sorry, I'd have to see that temp gauge you have for the wiring stuff. I suggest you take a voltmeter and see what is hot with key on/off
