anyone have gas cap door problems?

I dont drive my truck to often but for the last year when i go to fill it with fuel my gas door doesnt say open. You have to hold it open when you fill it. So today i open it and it stays open... Now it wont close!!!! It flaps in the wind!! Is there a spring or something in there? Any ideas how to fix it? Truck is still under extended warranty but i dont want to pay my $100 deductable to fix it.

Mine did the same thing. I just use velcro to keep mine closed. Still works fine after 2 years.

when these truck first came out we changed so many of these out for those same reasons.you wold be better off buying a new one than paying the deductable.you are actually changeing the whole cup assembly.you transfer the actual door cover to the new one really easy to change.

It's supposed to be some kind of a safety thing to prevent a static electric spark from igniting the fuel vapors.

when i got home i took the whole thing apart. The truck is built like a tank and the fuel door assembly is a POS... They used a piece of spring steel hooked to a plastic boss on the pin that the door hinges on. My boss broke off. Im making a new pin at work today, if that doesnt work ill order up a new assembly.

Same problem here, l was able to get it fixed under warranty. It really is a piece of junk plastic assembly. My 07 Mustang has a metal door and assembly, cant understand why a 30k plus truck doesn't.

Mine broke as well. Very cheap idea from ford. I glued a cabinet door magnet in there, works great!

It's a **** poor design. The fuel filler door on my dad's F250 LD is all steel, the hinge, the door, everything, you could take it off the truck, beat someone to death with it if you had to, and reinstall it with no ill effects.

There had to be somewhere else the bean counters could save money on besides the cheesy plastic filler door/latch assembly.

Obviously this is a HUGE concern, since every other Ford model has an appropriate metal fuel door.......

When the '09's came out, the first thing I checked was the fuel door. I was stunned to find the same lame plastic unit on the new trucks. I cannot believe this didn't get revised on the updated vehicle!

May all accountants die a fiery and painful death for cost-driven decisions like this!
