stock 4.6 HP capacity

so i have tried find searching for this info but i have had no luck. i know stock RWHP is near 200 but what is the highest hp these blocks can handle if I were to put boost or spray on it. I know the stock mustang 05-current 4.6 is 450RWHP. I know it is a dif between a 2v vs 3v but there still is a tolerance this engine can do.

what ya think?

I'm sure these 4.6's can handle 450 RWHP, but for how long is really the question. It might set off and send a rod through the block in a short amount of time.

LOL....your 4.6 is pushing 231HP at the crank...so your looking closer to 180-185 at the wheels. Stock Mustang...450rwhp, where is this? 05' up GT has 300HP at crank, the '99-'04 had 260 at the crank.

Punisher is right. 450rwhp on the stock internals would be pushing it over a long period of time. If you want big numbers your going to have to re-build the engine or swap to a 5.4 I'd say you could run 320 RWHP, ruoughly 400 at the crank pretty safely.

i said it wrong earlier...i know the stock 4.6 block can do 450 all day long with a SC/ turbo. i was thinking about making an custom turbo kit for the 4.6 in the truck to kick it up some HP. well if we are sitting at 200 RWHP damn ya think we could go to 350 and be very safe...that is a heck of an improvement over stock. i like the idea of having the power for towing.

As long as you have a good tune and supporting mods, I don't think 400 hp is out of the question.

Depending on the year the 2007/2008 F150 with 4.6L is rated 248 at the crank. The 2004-2006 is rated 231 at the crank.

So I'm curious. Are the internals of this engine different than the 2v mustangs? Is the intake manifold the only difference? I would love to liven this thing up and in my plans is a kenne bell but thats down the road.

I just see a whole lot of potential of missed out HP when it is looking like we could push these blocks to 400RWHP. I am brainstorming a turbo kit for this engine for the DIY guru...I think it is just highway robbery when they are charging 5k for a SC/Turbo. I could not even imagine having double the HP for towing and general driving. I have a mustang i race and I am used to running 11s. Once I ran my truck since my car was having work done to it. Guess what i ran in the 1/4 mile. a 19.4!!!!! granted it may have ran that with a trailer attached but I was shocked at how slow it got down the 1/4. doubling the HP may only get me to 14s but i didnt get this truck for 1/4 runs. i am just imagining i am towing the trailer and the car and have to get up the hill...it would be nice to climb it with some authority

i don't think that 350hp is a problem. the tranny is where the problem is. it's not strong enough.

trans is safe fairly for 500hp with a shift kit, you just can't run high 500+ torque numbers through it

front timing cover, injectors and tune

you can bolt a mustang 2 valve positive displacement supercharger to your truck 2 valve and have only a couple things to modify

It's been done before and I know people are going to laugh and talk the usual crap since they haven't done it yet but it's possible and I can point you int eh right direction if you need it

About 2 years ago we Procharged my friends truck (98 150 4.6), put a 13lb pulley, exhaust, 42lb injectors, 5.4maf, some other mods, and then had a super chip tuned at MC Racing in Kansas City the and like what was said before, it becomes a transmission issue rather than a engine issue, I think the engine could have taken a lot more, but the trans was doing some weird stuff. Shift kit/torque converter is a must have, if you plan to make some hp.
