Question Package Drop

Would a Fx4 model with 3.73 gears get worse MPG than a Lariat model with 3.55? The window stickers boy show 14 city and 18 highway?

I have a 05 Scab Lariat with 5.4 3v it has 3.73 gears and get 15. When I bought it it got 12. I don't know why FX4 or lariat would make a difference but I could be wrong.

city will be better with 3.73
highway will be better with 3.55

lariat, fx4, king ranch, xlt, xl does not make a difference if they have the same drivetrain

I didn't mean to implicate the model would be relevant. I'm just deciding between two trucks that have different axle ratios.

it just depends on how you drive, and how much weight you carry around

+, the Lariat and King Ranch typically wiegh more than the lower trim models. This is because of the Moonroof, Slider Windows, Leather Seats...etc.

Many factors...but either way, the 3.55 to 3.73 jump is pretty tiny. The MPG differences are pretty negligible IMO.
You can have a bigger affect on MPG with your foot than the difference between these gears ever will

There won't be a huge difference in mileage between the 2 trucks. But if you do plan on towing 4K or more, or running larger tires I would go for the 3.73's.

My truck has 3.73's and I average 15mpg, thats with both city and highway driving. Also I have seen over 19 mpg on the hwy a couple different trips.
