Fuel pump/sending unit?

Is my sending unit going out? I've noticed the last 2 out of 4 times when I filled up that my fuel guage stays close to E. It gradually (a few hours) finally goes to full. I put some techron in the tank and that seemed to help a little. It seems to me that my fuel level sending is gummed up or going south.
Is that a one piece unit with the fule pump? Anything I can check to verify?

TIA,
MJ

Mine did the same thing. Finally hung long enough to turn on the check engine light. It is the sending unit. Only comes as a fuel pump assembly. Mine went out at 37k but dealer warranteed it anyway.

Sending unit?

I usually don't fuel with the ignition on but when I have it didn't do that.
So it's a complete assembly... that's what I figured. Anyone know where to get a good quality replacement without breaking the bank?
Does this require dropping the tank for replacement?

TIA,
MJ

Pump

Also, should I suspect that my fuel pressure is dropping or affected in some way?

Have to drop the tank. I would go with a name brand like NAPA or Oreilly's. Stay away from their cheaper line and definitely stay away from Autozone. Check the dealer too, sometimes they will surprise you. Fuel pressure shouldn't be affected. Also change your fuel filter if it has been more than 15,000 miles.

Ive got the same problem. I would have fixed it already but i just dont wont to have to pull the bed or drop the tank. If you go to fastpartsnetwork.com, they list the fuel pump and sending units as two different items. Let me know how your fix goes.

im sure that the 5.4 is a little different but my 4.6 had a 1 piece unit that was about $300 at the dealer, and dropping the tank turned out to be quite a chore for me because one of the backing nut retainers (little money clip looking thing with a threaded hole) broke inside the frame rail. it took a few hours to get that one bolt out. other than that the only hard part was disconnecting the fuel lines on top of the tank

Filter change

I changed the filter today since it had 89k on it. LOL. Should I be concerned about a lack of gasoline spray when disconnecting the fuel lines to the filter? I had no spray, just a small flow which I feel was from the filter. I was thinking it would be under pressure. Could this be a sign the pump is on the way out?

I never get any spray when I change my filter. A little will leak out and I just catch it with a rag.
