Whats your Take?

Ok so i have been kickin around the idea of a leveling kit and i am about to order the AS 2". So my question is if im going to stick with the stock 18" FX4 rim what size tire. I like the Cooper Zeon LTZ because its cheap and i have only been hearing good things. So here is the prob im a poor college boy and i can get the LTZ in a 285/60-18 for right under 150 each but that is shorter but wider then my stock tire(right?) would it look funny? (to small) the other way to go is the LTZ in a 275/70-18 but then the price go up to over 200 per tire. HELP!!!! If anyone has the leveling kit and the tire sizes above and has a pic please post. Thanks

You should get plenty of help..give it a bit. Here's my thoughts. I have the 2" AS and 33" on 17's with no issues at all. I would go the equivalent to 33x12.50 in the 18" and you should be good to go. Personally, I wouldn't level the truck and go smaller on tire diameter. You should be able to go 35's on it, as many have, but again personally, I don't like that big of tire "stuffed" in the wells with just a 2" AS. You may have rubbing....I have heard both sides of that issue. Mine came with 255's and I went 285's with my 2" AS and use a SuperChips TirePaq to adjust the speedo and transmission.

The 275/70/18 is a new size for that tire so probably no one has them yet. If you check Cooper's website, the 285/60/18 is no longer listed so i'm not sure it's still being made anymore. You still might be able to find some though. I personally wouldn't get the 285/60/18's since you have a 4wd. I think they would look way too short.

I am a 4x2 but I have the Toyo AT 285s on mine with the stock 18s. I also have a 2' front AS spacer and 2' Fabtech rear blocks. Check my gallery.

Edit: Mine are 285/65/18

I'm actually running 275/7018 Nitto TG's. I love them! I have them on 18x9 XD Monsters. Plenty of pics in my gallery!

Would the 285/60-18 look ok with no leveling kit or still to small? I am just trying to think how it will look any different then it would with the old tires becasue its only half inch differnce i could play with that on tire pressure?

Assuming you have 275/65/18 as a stock size, the 285/60/18 will only be 10mm wider but .6" shorter. I'm not sure I would bother changing tire sizes unless you just can't find the stock size. They probably won't really look much different since the differences are so small, but your speedo will be almost 2% off with the new tire. It will read slower than you are traveling.

You won't be able to adjust the tire UP .6" with air pressure and if you get ANY extra height at all, they will more than likely be so over inflated they will wear our the centers pretty fast, not to mention ride like a log wagon and beat the crap out of the truck.

The 275/70/18 that hivoltage mentions will be just over an 1" taller and the same width. (IMO seems to be the best option if on a budget even though they may be higher than the 285/60)

The 305/65/18 that last5oh mentions will be 1.6" taller 30mm wider.

They all will require a speedo recalibration unless you plan to account for it when you drive. It all comes down to your budget and how you want it to look. Personally, If I could only afford the 285/60/18 I would get the stock size if you NEED tires, because you are creating a few fixable problems by changing sizes and if it isn't much of a change, it really isn't worth it. If you don't NEED tires I would save the money and save up for a bigger size difference to make it worth the trouble of the speedo re-cal and better looks with the leveled truck.

Go here and put in some sizes to see how they differ but it comes down to you and what you want.
