Sell or Keep??????

Need some opinions. I've got an 05 150 fx4 w/106k. Its starting to hesitate a little going up hills. Guess its time for plugs. Im worried after reading all the talk about plugs. Also, it has had the "diesel tick" since new. Could be starving for oil like others. I love my truck, but Im thinking now might be a good time to sell. What do yall think?

What can I get a new 4 door FX4 for? No options.

Sell!!!!! In many areas there is a shortage of used vehicles, so trade in value may be at a premium.

If you are in good financial condition and can afford a new truck, I'd be inclined to get a new one. Depending on what you are looking for, you could pick up a remaining '08 for a song, or get a really good deal on a new '09 if you're so inclined. Now is a great time to be purchasing a new vehicle if you need one and can afford it!

if the motor is the only thing bad...I'd do a lower mileage motor swap. Otherwise, I'm 100% with Atom. I hate the fix-it game with older vehicles

Cost you roughly $2,000 to $2,500 for a used longblock

I'm not sure. I've heard Chicago - Milwaukee area is getting premium values.

There are no new 08s at any dealers in the area.

Wouldn't hurt to go shop around and see what you could get for yours on a trade in.

but then again driving it around when its fully paid for has to be nice too.

That is because people want to spend less and buy used, but in the process have pushed up the price of used vehicles. Some times it pays to go against the crowd.

When I took my truck in for it's first oil change the sales manager said they made good money on my trade in. He also said that he had no more used trucks to sell. This would be the perfect time to sell the old one yourself and buy a discounted new one.

You've wasted a pile of money over the years. With proper servicing and treatment, most modern vehicles are good for well over 200,000 miles without a lot of nickel and dime problems. I sold my last truck to a cousin with 179,000 miles on it and gave my daughter my car with 170,000 miles on it. They both have over 200,000 miles on them now and they haven't had many problems.

you have very good luck then. I've never had a vehicle break 100,000 miles without major issues.

after the 75,000 mile point, I don't trust vehicles. Okay for me to drive as a commuter, but the wife/kids will never be in one of them....so they consequently go away shortly after that point.

part of the problem I think is that I don't get them new. I've only owned 2 vehicles new. My truck and 1 SUV. And we all know how most people beat the snot out of their vehicles.

but yeah, I'm with Atom. I'd rather pay more over the years for a nice reliable, trouble free ride, than deal with all the petty crap a car 5yrs + brings to the table.
