Lead on 05' F150

Well, fellas....its been awhile since ive posted. I sold my 01' screw and am now in the market for a new to me f150. I found a lead on an 05' F150 XLT 4x4 with 55,000 miles. The asking price is 12,900. I think it is a steal, what do yall think? It looks to be as clean a truck as any for its year and mileage. Any insight is appreciated.

sometimes a steal is a big can of worms. make sure to carfax it, i looked at a truck at a dealer in minnesota and it was a year old, awesome price, but something was way too good to be true. the dealer didn't have the carfax, so i went back to the tb and turned the laptop back on. sure enough, truck was rearended, fix, and traded in. 4grand less than anywhere else, but it was just wrecked. also what motor is in it? 4.6 or 5.4? what's underneath look like? who had it? sounds silly but some people have the motto, drive it you stole it. did it have a lift ever? (look for the front crossmember missing or new welds on the drivers side) service records? was it a lease? i could go on all day, but you get the point.

All good points! Worth checking it out. The price sounds good.

It has the 5.4 Triton and it is the supercab model. It doesnt look to have ever been lifted. It is a consignment sale. Not sure who the owner is/was, but they def. took good care of it from the looks of it anyways. I will def. look into a carfax for it. Can anyone tell me what the main differences are between the XLT package and FX4 package? I am really interested in a truck to be mainly used for towing my 22ft pathfinder bay boat on trips.

the fx4 package has different rims, body colored bumper, sits about an inch higher, limited slip, different gauge cluster, and some have the center shift.

the xlt will have chrome bumpers, and the options vary.

if you want to tow with it, make sure it has an actual tow package not just a hitch bolted on. also you would want the 3.73 gears not the 3.55

Thanks for the info, how do i check what gears are in the rear end and if it has an actual tow package, not just a hitch mounted?

look underneath the rear bumper, a added on hitch will have just 4 bolts holding it on (usually it will) the oem ties into the bumper, also will have the pin connector.

the gear code should be on the door jamb

there is a code for the gears on the doorjamb, or crawl under it and look on the tag on the gear cover.

Since its not a supercrew. yeah the price is about right. These are less desireable than the screw.... But if its what you want - you win!
