I ran mine to the center counsel. Took the trim off, dremmeled a small hole for the wire and presto, my Ipod sits in my center counsel all concealed, no wires or nothing.

What is different about the 2005 interface? I have a 2005 FX4 and this looks simply and clean, but it states it does work with it. What is different?

IDK. Get the model number off your stereo and call them. They will be able to tell you if yours will work.
