2004 5.4L 3V Engine Interchangeability

Between the $750 spark plug service and now having the #2 cylinder break a spring, bend a valve and wipe the cam at 120K , I'm not loving the 3V 5.4L engine right now.

What are my options if I swap the motor. Can I put in a pre-2004 2V or a 2008 or newer with the spark plug fix? Would either/both require a PCM swap? If I swap the PCM, do I take it to a dealer to get the PATS programmed? I only have one key right now.

Has anyone put a Lincoln 5.4V DOHC in a F150? Do they fit? Are they any better as far as reliability?

Thanks,

Bob

If I'm not mistaken, you can't install an engine that's older then the vehicle it's going into. You can only swap an engine into your '04 that's from another '04 or newer model. Something to do with maintaining emissions standards for that model year.

Seems like it would be cheaper to fix the engine.
I don't think you can swap backwards.
Most 5.4 3V engines including mine go well over 110K miles trouble free.
Maybe you got a lemon and/or costly poor service and repairs.
