Question 07 SCrew clunk in rear at 8K miles? Any Known TSB's?

Hello all,
I've got a 2007 F150 SuperCrew with 8-9K miles on it. I've started to notice that during a low-speed (1-2 mph), slight to medium right-turn, I hear a clunk that sounds like it is coming from the rear passenger side of the truck. It can also happen just after shifting into drive and making the same aformentioned slight-right turn. It is like a small amount of frame-flex from a slight right-turn can cause the clunk when just starting to move.

I know there is a balance weight at the top of the rear driver side frame rail, but I don't think the sound is coming from that. And the last I checked, the spare was snugly mounted.

So I was wondering if anyone knows of any TSB's about any rear spring, rear-end, or driveline/differential/universal joint issues common to these model/year trucks?

2007 F150 SuperCrew
5.4 Liter V8
Automatic with Center floor console shift
6.5' bed length
20" wheels
Truck is completely stock

Thanks in advance for any help.
JSB

I have an 08 with 13k on it, the same set up as yours, and it does the same thing sometimes when making a right turn on a small incline. I hope somebody knows what it is, or atleast can tell us it's nothing to worry about.

Mine does it sometimes when turning left. My neighbors Lariat (07'ish, round fogs) does it too because I noticed it when he was turning left out of his driveway. I was standing about 100 feet away at the time and I could actually hear it. This is common with almost all 04-08 F150's I believe. I haven't heard what causes it yet.

For those that are going to mention the slip yoke dealio, it's not that at all. This only occurs when turning. The slip yoke deal is a clunk when the tranny is shifting from 1st to 2nd and can be fixed by a simple grease job.

Edit-- it's also not the limited slip differential. This is an entirely different clunk.

rear end clunk

I have an 08 with 12k on it and encountered the same problem. I was told it was the drive shaft. The dealership told me the spline (?) was busted on it. They replaced that and put some teflon grease in there and its all better now. I was told there was a tsb on this.

That's the slip yoke deal I was talking about. It's not the same thing.

I had one that came in and it was an FX2 s/c too and it turned out to be the leaf springs and it to came from the pass side. But there are no TSB's for it though.

My 2004 just started doing this at 30K. It is most prominent when turning medium to sharp left and going slightly uphill. It sounded to me originally like I had a loose wheel or a hub bearing going bad. Its a real cruching pop type noise and does it five or six time through the left hand turn. I took the truck to a parking lot and did donuts at slow speed to have a friend trouble shoot. Neither one of us could pen point the noise. I can make it do the same thing to the right if I really step on the gas and turn pretty hard.

I have an 04 SCrew with the same problem. It does it mostley going over bumps and turning left/right at slow speeds. I thought at first my box was loose then maybe my spare tire and it's not. I can't really pin point it. Maybe leaf springs, I don't know. Anyone with some info please help!

Has anyone figured this out? I also hear the popping/clunking sound. Had it on my 2005 f150 screw. Truck rides well, only when turning right on a small/steep incline driveway.

It is the rear leaf springs. THe grease in them has worn out thus causing it to pop. Get some wd40, deep creep, or something and it should stop for a little while. Or I guess you could jack up the truck, spead apart the springs, pack grease in between them, and put it back together. Have yall noticed that if it is raining the truck wont pop anymore? lol

My 06 FX4 did this at about 25K. The dealership pulled the rear end a part a replaced the disks in the limited slip. Its been fine since.

*BRINGING THIS BACK FROM THE DEAD*

Has anyone had a solution for this annoying groan noise the truck makes when going over speed humps and going up hills at an angle....

i have had this problem with my truck even since 2009 and my truck is an 05... hate hearing it everyday. :|
