Question Automatic interior and exterior lighting. (04 FX4)

Hey all, hope you're doing well. I've seen countless posts about this and everyone's been directed to their owner's manual, which I've been through. I've searched in vain on a few forums for an answer to this question, so my apologies if it's been discussed before.

Can someone please explain how to disable the automatic initiation of interior and exterior lighting when you unlock the truck, turn off the truck, etc.

Thanks in advance,
Anthony

I don't know if the FX4 is like the Lariat, but mine is on the message center on the dash. I can hit set and then toggle through to lighting. I can also do a systems check, change display, It even lets me adjust the length of time my lights stay on after I shut down.

As far as I know there's no way to do that.

I didn't know this was possible. Sounds like it's just on the Lariat's.

Crap. I'm sick of lighting myself up like a Christmas tree every time I turn off the engine or unlocking the truck and having the headlights say, "I'm over here."

Look at page 91 for instructions on how to disable perimeter lighting. This will allow you to turn of your exterior lighting, but not the interiors, which includes the bed light.

But you've said you've tried this before and it didn't work. One thing I noticed, on motorcrafts list of owners guides for the 04 there are 5 different versions. Maybe the one you have has an error in the instructions, that may have been corrected in the 5th edition, which I posted the link to.

If that doesn't work. You're SOL. I will say, some of Ford's features that can be disabled may take a number of attempts before you do it perfectly. Then it works.

Good luck

This is from the 2008 manual, my 2006 manual is the same. Maybe it will help you, it is for the "autolamp" feature but I don't know if it controls the interior lights or not.

If your vehicle is not equipped with a message center, then the auto
lamps can be programmed manually by:
1. Start with the ignition in OFF and the autolamps selected (illuminated lamp symbol).
2. Turn off the autolamps by turning the headlamp switch to circle (off).
3. Turn the ignition to ON.
4. Turn the ignition to OFF.
5. Select the autolamps by turning the headlamp switch to (illuminated lamp symbol).
Steps 2 through 5 must be performed within a 10 second period. At
this point, the headlamps and park lamps will turn on.
6. Deselect the autolamps after the desired autolamp delay time
(maximum of 3 minutes).
At this point, the headlamps and park lamps will turn off.
