PTM Bumper question
PTM Bumper question
I have the chrome bumpers on my 08' XLT. I really want PTM bumpers which are nearly impossible to find.
I thought i read on here somewhere that the chrome bumpers can be sand blasted and painted. Is this true?
Thanks in advance.
P.s. i don not want to powdercoat the bumpers. The color of my truck is Stone Green metalic. I just do not know if anything other then the same paint would look good.

I think there is a method of prepping the chrome for paint..
EDIT: I found this http://www.ehow.com/how_4422511_pain...e-surface.html

the PTM bumpers do look really nice...but it comes at a cost.
the damn things get rock chips if you even sneeze at them. I have hundreds of little "craters" on my front bumper from 2 winters up in Washington....but it does look alot better than the chrome
have you tried ordering them from Ford? by the time you pay for painting, might be easier/cheaper to just buy new ones

Chaos, just looked them up, a front PTM bumper new from Tasca ford is 266.39 with/without foglights. The rear is 302.64 w/wo distance control.
Depending on where you are, shipping may be prohibitive. It might be cheaper in the end to buy them locally at the dealer.

Really... Well that makes a world of difference. I heard the price was like $600 a bumper. I know just the grill and sorround was like almost $300.
Thanks for that info i may just be buying a new front bumper this week, and the rear in another week or two.
Just bought a metallic blue sorround that i need to get repainted to match my truck.
once again thank you everyone for your help.
i got mine rear bumper powder-coated , and then i got lucky and found a front one decently priced.
cost $150 to do the rear, matches perfectly and im pretty sure its stronger than paint.

Yah i am sure that they are just primed. But it would save on the sand blasting cost and prep work when having to paint them. Then i could sell my chrome bumpers to help make up some of the cost.
Not sure if i need the new rear sensors, step pads and back up lights or if it comes with new bumpers already.
Not yet sure which way is cheaper. I dont think i could get my bumpers powder coated to match my paint.
Your powder coated bumpers do look sick though.

when you buy the new rear bumper, the one listed as coming with distance control means it has the holes stamped into the steel for the sensors, thats all.
that would work for the back, but you can't get those those colored bumpers with fogs. IMO those bumpers on your truck wreck the look.
