Question Think I have the IEW solenoid issue! HELP please!

I get a buzzing from the front end (sounds like the right side but I'm not sure) in 2HI but not in 4HI. If I shift from D to N while moving I can still hear the noise so it doesn't seem like a tranny issue. When I go from 2HI to 4HI I get a very audible "clunk" and the buzzing noise goes away completely.

1. Should there be any, and I mean ANY difference between the noise coming from the front end in 4HI and 2HI?

2. Should there be an audible "clunk" when going from 2HI to 4HI while moving?

Thank you!!

OK. Where are the check valves located and what is their part number?

Do a search for IWE and you'll find more than you want to know about the solenoid problem. I just went thru this myself - today. However the IWE sound has been better described as "ice in a blender" grinding noise. That's what mine sounded like - ust driving along in 2WD I'd begun to hear this awful grinding noise - only for a few seconds and very random.

I had already checked and found my 06 Lariat had the old solenoid so I had purchased the new one just a couple weeks ago - just had not got round to putting it on. With the grinding noise having just started in the past week, I called my dealer yesterday for a service appt. While I could easily change the solenoid, I wanted the hubs checked for damage. Good thing I did!

Put truck in shop today and service dept called. One hub was damaged enough to need replacing. Not all of the damage was related to the IWE solenoid problem they said but some was. Anyway, thankfully my Ford ESP will cover it all after my $100 deductible.

Search for IWE - you'll find a lot of info as well as the Part No. and pics showing the new vs old solenoid.
