How the heck do you index your wiper arms?

It doesn't appear that it's possible. Removing the wiper arm is easy enough, but once you remove it there's a tab that has to be lined up to put the arm back on. That tab can't be removed, and the spline part that's still attached to the truck can't be adjusted either. It looks like it's hammered on there for good because the spline part is split at the top which prevents the removal of the spline.

Anybody?

BTW, I did do a search first.

Popped my tab out with a screw driver. Did the same for my friends. Then simply put it back on so that it sat one notch higher on the windshield.

Some guys have used a dremel to grind the tab off. Sounds as if the popping off the one on the wiper blade may be easier.

But even if you do pop the tab out, there's no other spot within that circle on the wiper arm that it can go. The section of that circle where the tab is, is the only section of the entire circle without teeth.

Oh okay, I see what you mean. Once you get the tab off, you simply leave it off, and then put the arm back on.

Thanks.

The only thing is, I'm concerned about popping that tab off and losing wiper arm strength. That tab takes a lot of the brunt.

You would have to strip off all the splines. I think they are strong enough to hold. Several of them did it back in 2005, never heard a report of a problem.

Won't affect anything. Older vehicles (80s-2000s) used only the splines with no tabs. My '91 Ranger only had splines.

The tab slid out effortlessly. The driver's side wiper is in a MUCH better location now.

Again, thanks for the help.

You set it to go over closewr to the pillar? I need to do that, just never wanted to grind the tab off.

Yes, closer to the pillar. It increases visibility substantially. I especially hated when snow would build up in that area. It created a larger blind spot on the left side of the windshield.
You don't need to dremel anything. Just get a screwdriver in there at the bottom of the tab and pry. There was basically no pressure needed. It slid right out. I kept the tab, just incase..

Is the tab on the wiper blade or on the mounting stub? I can't remember which one looked removeable. I don't have to deal with the snow much, but rain is bad enough. I've just gotten used to putting up with it.

The tab is on the female side, which is the wiper arm. The mounting stub simply has a notch in it, to accept and allow the tab to slide in.

Yes, it will certainly help in rain as well. We've had a lot of rain lately, and I recall it bothering me on my way home from work yesterday as well.

Does the wiper sit a lot higher? Pics please. I know in FL we get a lot of rain, but it doesn't build up like snow would, I would imagine.
