Different Kind Of Whistling Noise...?

I have a 2008 Lariat Limited with just over 10K on it. For the past few months, I have noticed a "whistling" noise coming from the left front wheel at lower speeds.....I only hear it with the windows down and radio off/low. It will do it when going straight or turning; it will also do it under acceleration, coasting or braking. It is easiest to hear in a parking garage or with parked cars or a wall on the driver's side.

It changes pitch with wheel speed...it almost sounds like a brake pad warning noise but not as "metallic." Obviosly, our trucks don't have waring indicators so that can't be it.

This sounds different than most of the other whistle/squeak noises described here....this will not do it at idle....the truck has to be rolling.

PLEASE tell me someone else is dealing with this...I don't want to be one of THOSE guys!

Thanks, everyone.

I too have a high pitched whistling noise from the front left. Its hard to explain but annoys the crap out of me. Can only be heard from the drivers side and while moving with gas pressed. Once you let off, it stops. But its not constant either when on the gas.

I hear it. Brother hears it. Took it into the shop but they couldnt hear it. It sounds like a leak(air) or something.

If anyone has any ideas, please help.

UPDATE: They put it on the rack and the noise was coming from the transmission, Drained trans fluid no metal shavings, turns out its the bearing in the tailshaft end of the trans.

UPDATE! The noise was all of a sudden constant a few weeks ago. I will have to get my invoice from the dealer to give you the specifics but here is the jist:

A seal in the front differential was causing the squeaking noise. I believe it was the axle seal where the front drive axle meets the side of the diff.

Anyway, the noise is totally gone after they replaced it.

It does. How big a job was it? Were you without the truck for long? May go back to the ford dealer and talk to them about what i've been reading here.

Iceland boy: Thats what my truck did..You give it gas and it got louder and didnt matter if it was in 2wheel or 4 wheel drive it was always there. But when you let off it got quieter. suggest they lift it up on the rack thats how they could tell it was the trans...I guess when something in the driveline goes bad the sound transfers all over and I swore my noise was coming from the front passenger wheel, but i guess thats just where the noise traveled to. PS I can read your english ;-)

Lonestar rob: They dropped my trans and had it apart in a few hours, and when they seen it was the bearing they had to order it, so it was down for 2 days...If the part would have been in stock I think they would have finished it on 1 day. If you want heres the number to my dealer : Uptown motors Ford, lincoln, mercury: 414-771-9000 Maybe your dealership could call and ask them ?'s if need be maybe to help things on your end.
hope this helps. Tina :-)
