Stealership screwin me?
well several things, they charge the diagnosis fee regardless, and if it is a warranty problem, that fee gets paid by ford or whoever issuing the extended warranty, if its not a warranty problem, you pay for the diag fee and repairs.
then go home and spray the heck outta your maf sensor with MAF SENSOR cleaner, and you should be good to go. worse comes to worse you eat the diag fee.

dude you dont even know.thats all i can say apparently you didnt read my entire quote and think about it.i am elaborating about what is involved at dealerships and if you claim a ford dealer doesnt charge you for diag then either you have a friend that works there,or your truck is under warranty,or you are lying because you dont like being wrong.

and you should have left it as first posted...much better IMO
sounds normal to me.Been a service advisor for 6 years now.why should the warrenty company pay for your gas cap being loose?im just using that as a example.Alot of honda's do that and then they put the loose gas cap light on the dash so customer dont get made when u charge $90.00 for telling them they left the cap loose or not one correct.

Man I dont knwo about all this sketch stuff. I dont have friends at my 2 hometown dealerships, I just havent been chaged for something liek this. Ironically my sister in laws father works at a nissan dealership and hes the one that told me that was sketchy. I then call ford corporate and considering this is my 4th ford vehicle in 10 years in our family I figured they would take the useless pay. Furthermore upon calling for corporate they informed me that this is a privately owned ford and that they can charge what the want proving my point that this ford is sketch as hell. Just because you have worked at a stealership before does not make it a non stealership. When your family puts in nearly 100k in vehicles then you would expect better service/treatment than this. So as much as your rant on how hard it is when the obd code says something about the maf sensor, and then you undo 2 screws and confirm that and that is somehow worth 98 bucks then your a ********** moron and thats why your working at a stealership! SCAMER
To sum it up, I have learned my lesson about going to this ford. I am crazy pissed how sketchy all this was, but that just tells me I should always go back home for ford work and that even though I care alot about the ford name I now realise there are a lot of C**** working at stealerships and because of that I need to go where I know I can be treated normal. I didnt know before hand, so I want to just proclaim I have learned my lesson!
Thats crazy weird (referring to the guy who works at the dealerships a few post up there). My dealership back home doesnt charge to tell me what my check engine light is. Neither does the other shop a bit further in town I go to. Amazingly this one does (im in school, so this is a college town). Also a basic diagnostic is hooking up the computer to the truck. Very minimal labor at all. especially if its a sensor then all it is, is undoing 2 screws to confirm that. This is sketch as H*** to me. Straight crookin stealership! I will never ever go back to this stealership!
When you're paying for the diagnosis fee, you're not really paying for the labor to hook the thing up and retrieve the codes. You're paying for the $12,000+ worth of equipment to do that, and the years of experience necessary to accurately interpret what the scan tool is saying and determine what the failure in question is.
This ain't Geico, if it was as easy as you think it is, a caveman could do it.
As far as your other dealership not charging you to check it, well, I don't know what their problem is. Maybe they're bestest buddies with you or something, I don't know, but do you really think that means you should universally get that diagnosis for free? Are you high?
I don't work for free. Do you?
For the small amount of money that the dealership charges to diagnose, I sure wouldnt complain. Every time I have taken my truck to the dealership, it has been fixed right and I havent had to throw extra money at it.
On one instance, my truck was overheating, it was not throwing a code, so it was difficult to diagnose, but I took it in once and they flushed the radiator, and it kept overheating, I had to take it back in and they tried a couple more things, never charging me for any of them because it was not fixed, then finally the head tech determined it was an aftermarket thermostat that was installed on the truck earlier in the year, so they refunded me my money from the radiator flush, the diagnostic fee, and I paid nothing for them to repair it. Then they gave me a 25% off coupon for any service. Not many hometown mechanics will do that, I would have paid a grand before it was fixed

What kind of warranty is it? I bought the Ford ESP Premium care with a $50 deductible when I bought my truck. I'm covered until October of 2012. They told me that Premium care is as good as the factory warranty, but I have to pay the $50 deductible for any work done. $50 for a motor or trans is a good deal to me.

To Quintin I clearly dont work for free, none the less someone did purchase a Car head unit from me once a few weeks back, and it was messing up so I went out and figured out what was going on (since my name was on the product I wanted it to be right and the customer to have been taken care of.) DMM's were used, and so were extra wires and what not but I diddnt think once to charge somebody for it. My point is for something so freakin minor like that was I wouldnt think at all for charging someone for it. So in that instance YES I DO WORK FOR FREE. This is called service after the sale.
ya know i can understand trying to take care of the customer like you said, the guy with the radio with issues and i understand that.i dont understand the complaints on the pricing on the parts and service from the dealer.especially from a new concern.now if you already had the same code and they replaced a part and it didnt fix it then yes i can see not charging again.i get that.but calling people who work at dealers scammers and whatever is uncalled for.due we are just telling you how it is.we arent trying to crap in your cherios but just explaining why it is what it is.thats all we are doing man just chill.
hey tylus i changed my post because i feel i went overboard so i changed it to tone it down now i just want to settle the discussion down a notch or too.
Go to Autozone then, get the codes retrieved for free, then start throwing parts at it like an idiot 'cause you've got no f'kin' idea what you're doing or what you're talking about.
