loss of throttle control

Ok... I did a search and came up with one thread, https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...2106-code.html, that *MIGHT* be related.

Anyway, this morning on my drive to work I lost throttle control. It "felt" like the truck shut off, but it didn't. I looked at the dash and the wrench was the only light on. I threw it in neutral and coasted over to the shoulder, by then the engine and battery light were on and the information center was saying check gauges. Funny thing is, my truck was still running. I shifted to park, tried to rev the engine, and nothing. The RPM gauge fluttered a little, but it wouldn't rev up at all. Finally, I shut it off, and started it up again, and all was fine for the remainder of the trip.

I was previously using the cruise control, but when this happened it was disengaged (not turned completely off). Other factors: Sunny clear day, temps about 25 degrees F. I don't remember my exact speed, but I was in the HOV lane and was probably in the 40 to 50 or a little higher range.

Anyone had this happen before?

I'm guessing that no one has experienced this.

Jus read this post. I had the same exact problem. Did it to me a couple times till I was exiting off the freeway on a turn, lol. Not safe. I went in and it ended up being my Throttle Position Sensor. Of course I was out of my warranty, So I paid about $396.94 parts and labor.

Well, I took it by my dealer today and had my regular mechanic look it over. He pulled the codes and from what I could read over his shoulder, it was the throttle position sensor. He flashed my PCM with a newer code while he was at it. It hasn't happened again, so we decided to let it ride for a while and see if it starts happening with some frequency. Should that happen, we'll replace the necessary parts.

Thanks. You appear to be right on the money.

I'm having a similar problem. Mine goes into Engine Failsafe Mode. But only when it's colder than 40 degrees out and I'm WOT under really heavy load.

I am considering replacing the entire DBW assembly, including the pedal.

It's happened to me a 2-3 times. Usually when I beat on it though. I've gotten 2 codes from my Edge. I don't remember the numbers but they were TPS stuck closed, or TPS stuck wide open.

2005, 67k miles, give or take.

I haven't a clue as to the cause. It's been colder and the truck has done fine when on those days. I wasn't under anytype of load. I wasn't WOT either. For all I know, I may have pressed on the gas pedal in such a way as the computer got confused and went into failsafe mode.
