If you dont get the 4x4 light at all I would give the shift motor a wack and see if they works. If it does you will need a new one soon.

Underneath the truck on the front differential. It is at the rear of it. I had the same situation and smacked it with the tire iron several times then its worked since.

The shift motor is mounted to the rear of the transfer case, almost looks like a whiper motor.

yeah, just get under the truck and give the shift motor a good whack or three

hit it firmly, but don't dent the metal casing. it won't take alot

should get you your 4x4 back...but it won't last forever. the corrosion will build back up sooner or later

Glad you got it working for now.

I have the manual floor shifter on my truck. I hope that having the floor shifter means that I don't have to worry about the problem some of you have had with 4x4 not engaging. 131,000 miles so far and still works. (knock on wood)

When I bought my truck I didn't even know they still offered a manual transfer case. I looked at least 20 4x4's and all of them were electric shift. I guess I should have asked before buying mine.

Anyway I usually shift mine into 4wd once a month just to keep the tracks lubed and hopefully prevent the motor from locking up.
