does anyone use 5w30 in their trucks when ford recommends using 5w20? and if so has anyone had any problems doing so?

I've tried just about every oil in my truck. My last oil change I used mobile 1 synthetic 5w-30, I liked it, its a little thicker then 5w-20 (5w-20 is like water, its too thin IMO). I now use Quaker state synthetic 10w-30, my engine doesn't make anymore ticking noises so I might stick w/it (90k miles)

I used 5w-30 mobil 1 until they raised the price on it...now I'm using 5w-30 quaker state torque power and seems like good oil. Next time though I may look at the Castrol Edge and stick with that.

I've used Mobil 1 5w-30 in mine since the very first oil change. 93,000 on the ticker and never had any problem.

Some claim it will hurt it, Ived used both 5W30 and 5W20 in mine. What I have discovered is that it uses a little oil between changes with the 5W20 and none with 5W30, so I plan on sticking with the 5W30.

A thinner oil should give you alittle better mileage but nothing that I would think could amount to much in savings.

I'm going to shop for new oil tomorrow and check out the castrol edge and see what the prices are now for mobil 1 and quaker state.
