Alignment with MotoMetal Wheels, problems?

Alignment with MotoMetal Wheels, problems?

Someone mentioned that you can't get an alignment with these wheels, Motometal 956s.
Something about they can't get the claws on them.
I was wondering if anyone had that problem.

I want to install my wheels now, but I will be adding a leveling kit later.
So I'll need an alignment.
Before I install the new wheels I want to make sure I can get an alignment.

On most newer wheels without a lip the garage won't try to do an alignment or ask you to put oem back on in fear of scratching the new wheels. I know when I took mine in for a recheck after 1k miles with the lift they wanted me to install the oems rather then damage my new wheels.

I have seen the moto metal 956, but can't remember if they are flush like the 951 or not. If they don't have a lip like your oem wheel then you'll have to switch out when you get the alignment.

Thanks! That's what I thought.
I just order 2.5" AS kit, so I can get the alignment first anyway.
I'm installing this asap. Then off to the wheels.

Im confused....I cant picture a way that it would be impossible to get the heads to attach to the wheel....

I'm not sure either.
But the guy I bought them from said they won't do an alignment with these.
I wanted to throw it out there and see if that sounded right. He said it was beadlock that's why? It won't be an issue for now though.

When there isn't a lip on the wheel like oem where most wheel weights are put on they won't risk installing the alignment tool for fear of damaging an expensive aftermarket wheel.

This thread is a joke

It's not the face your rims don't have a lip.. These take care of that.



It's more of the fact that most of these tires have rim protectors on them. We usually have to let the air out of the tire, lube where the heads are going, and them work them in. It takes time and you have to be careful. Can it be done? yes and I do it everyday.

I prefer to have people bring in there stockers if they can just to be safe.. If not i won't hesitate to do it.

then find a shop of able people, i take my truck in and they do just fine with my 20's. if you have good/newer machines it's not a problem, it's damn near touchless anyways, they have cotton boots for the measuring tools. i live in redneck heaven and my shop will do it, this is funny to me

Ive had this problem with my wheels, and the first time had to put my stockers back on. But when I swapped out the stockers for the aftermarket wheels I saw the tires werent wearing right. It wasnt wearing bad but not to my liking. Ended up talking to a few shops and found out there is a laser machine that hooks up a different way. But Mavis was able to align my wheels.

i run pro comp wheels, and my shop will only do it with stockers.... its not about damaging the wheels, its the fact that most wheels dont have the lip on the outer edge. so, the machines sensors simply cant hold onto the wheels.

I don't know anything more then my experience 1badstx. I don't work in a garage, I just simply stated what I had to do at my ford garage for an alignment and it seems several others have to use stockers as well.

I assume this 'lip' you guys are talking about is the small outward turned circumference of the wheel......the claws on the alignment heads dont attach to that per say, but instead to the very outside circumference of the wheel, kind of between the wheel and the beed of the tire.

Your completley right about the rim protectors built into the tire, I still think thats what these guys are talking about and what their shop is trying to avoid. In fact I had the same problem on my very own pickup....had to air down the tires and work the heads in between the tire and wheel. It definitley is more of a PITA than a regular tire, but its not impossible. It IS nice to have stock wheels on simpley because its easier to mount the heads, plus you dont have to worry so much about messing up someones 300 dollar wheel....

I had a guy come back in one time with a stock f150. I think he had an fx4? i can't remember. Anyway he called us a week later and started b....ing about 4 tiny mark on each wheel from the alignment heads because i used the inner lip . I just sat there and laughed while he tried to point them out to me.

Another time i put slicks on a guys 03/04 cobra rims. The rim faces will scratched/malled HORRIBLY before i even got them. The guy tells me that those million hairline scratches weren't there before. He was being a real PITA so we go get my boss, and needless to say, the customer didn't even get a chance to speak he was getting chewed out so bad
