Question Need Quick Help w/ PIE adapter in 2005 F150

I just pulled my stereo out to install my PIE adapter, and I found that the main wire bundle from the truck plugs into a different port (bigger) on the stereo than the PIE is meant to plug into.

I have an 05 F150 XLT with the single CD stereo, and it does have an AUX button on it.

Is this normal?

If not, will the PIE adapter still work with nothing plugged in at one end?

Thanks,
CJ

It is supposed to plug into a different place, the part where something else plugs into the PIE is for other aux stuff like dvd players, audiophile, changers, etc.

Thank you. My original understanding of the connection was that it went between the main bundle from the truck and the stereo.

I got it installed and it works. Just need to find a cool way to mount it.

I left the PIE behind the dash, covnerted the rca's to a 1/8'' jack and put it through the dash next to the cig lighter, then I have a 3' cord to go between the IPOD and it...

bjp,
Mine is mounted the exact same way! It looks like it came from Ford like that!

bjp & freek, how did you guys get the plug to stay in panel you have it mounted to? Bjp, your picture is not clear. How much of the plug is sticking out towards the interior? I want to install a 3.5mm female – female coupler in my dash to use with my PIE & mp3 setup. I have looked hard for this coupler with a mounting flange & I haven’t found one. The only thing I can think of now is to buy a round coupler & under drill the hole in the dash for a tight fit. If there’s not some type of support for the plug, it will work loose over time & use.
Thanks

You will not find a female to female adapter with a mounting flange. I looked everywhere and there isn't one. I did exactly as you said. I under drilled the hole, and pressed the adapter into the plate so that the front was flush with the panel. I then took a piece of plastic tubing and epoxied it to the back of the panel and epoxied the jack to the plastic tubing. It works great and hasn't come loose yet. It is an extremely tight fit on the adapter. I actually had to tap it into place with a hammer.

The jack sticks out 3mm...there are panel mouNt 1/8'' jacks made, just have to order them online. I bought an RCA to male cord, then bought 2 1/8'' jacks(the jack and the cover), soldered some 3 conductor wire to it, drilled a hole next.to the cig lighter, threaded the jack in then threaded the back onto the jack, then soldered the other jack onto the end of the 3 conductor. I can take better pics if you want

bjp, no need to take anything apart for pictures. Your connection to the PIE AUX unit seems more advanced than the normal connection. I don’t understand what you did but that doesn’t matter….it works for you. Can you give me a link to where you bought the 1/8” jacks? I’m trying to do a flush mount for the male jack that connects to the player.

Freek, thanks for your response. The tube around the coupler is a good idea & your right, there’s not a female – female coupler with a flange.
